  1. Boras is talking about $43M per year for 15 years = $645M contract for Soto. Cringe worthy, to say the least.
  2. There has been a lot of suffering when it comes to this year's Red Sox. I am emotionally exhausted from this team. LOL That's why we're fans though.
  3. If I didn't think the Sox had a legitimate chance, I'd with with you on selling. Since I do think they have a legitimate chance, I can't accept us being sellers.
  4. I think my frustration has been with the offense's (on the whole) inability to score runs during our bad stretches, especially to begin the season. I don't have any problems with Verdugo. IMO, he has been the victim of some poor breaks. His expected stats are much better than his actual stats. xBA - .308, xSLG - .503, xwOBA - .358.
  5. I'm sure he has considered all scenarios as well. The tricky part is that the fates of some other teams might also be determined by what happens over the next several games. A prospective trade partner may have a change of plans. Or an injury to a key player on a contending team might make them a buyer for a player when they previously weren't.
  6. Sounds about right, but perhaps a little better than you're expecting. A lot of our second half run is going to have to come from the existing players being healthy and playing at a high level.
  7. Just a few short weeks ago, those numbers looked so much better though. If the Sox continue the poor play coming out of the ASB, then we might have different considerations. At the moment, I can't see us being sellers. I wouldn't call it putting all our chips on this team. I'm not expecting Bloom to go all in to win this year. He isn't going to harm the current long term outlook. He might not add to it by trading away all our big players, but he won't harm it.
  8. Believe, MVP, believe.
  9. Solid post Larry.
  10. I agree that the Sox have to go for it, not that I believe Bloom ever had any intention of adding big at the deadline. For me, going for it means not selling key players more than it means adding huge acquisitions. I do think Bloom will try very hard to upgrade at 1B and in the pen.
  11. Head to head competition means almost nothing when it comes to the postseason. I understand not wanting to let guys walk away for nothing, but I can't get on board with quitting on the team when they are right in the hunt with almost half the season to go.
  12. If you can get into the playoffs, you can win it all. You play to get into the playoffs.
  13. Time to reinstate Mr. Pete Rose.
  14. I'm not saying it would necessarily be a small improvement. But I wouldn't significantly hurt this year's chances by trading Bogaerts unless it's an offer that simply can't be turned down. I'm not willing to give up on this year with almost half the games remaining.
  15. You said that much better than I did.
  16. The priority is long term sustainability, but that doesn't mean completely punting away the present. It's not running out the clock just to see Xander for 2 more months. It's keeping the Red Sox in contention and getting them into the playoffs.
  17. It was his decision not to get vaccinated. That decision did not deserve the scrutiny and the criticism that it received.
  18. Bite your tongue!
  19. It's possible. I won't say that that isn't the reason why he's struggling.
  20. I remember last year's Mariners having a run differential that didn't support their W-L record. This year, their record aligns much better with run differential. Baseball can indeed be cruel. It is such an unpredictable sport. The Mariners are in a good spot. Enjoy the ride!
  21. I get that. He's still making millions regardless. I didn't take the statement as being vacuous. I think he understands that as bad as his luck has been, he doesn't really have reason to complain compared to what others are going through.
  22. Unless the Sox are blown away with an offer, I don't see them trading any of their regular starters. I don't see them punting this season to gain a small improvement in the long term outlook. At the same time, they won't hurt the future outlook in hopes of winning this year. I foresee adding small reinforcements and banking on the players that we have to be healthy and to perform like they are capable of performing.
  23. This recent news about his contract demands ruined his victory in the HR Derby for me. I was pulling against him. I know I shouldn't feel that way, but I can't help it.
