If the Padres win a WS in the next 3 years, it will have been worth it. Yes, these types of moves are really exciting for the fan base, but there's no guarantee and they don't come without consequences.

100%. I was very happy when the deadline passed and JD and Eovaldi were still on the team. There's a lot of work for the team to do, but they have a shot.

Fair. I think we all, myself included, should try to stop taking shots at those who don't agree with us. While Denny's post didn't really bother me other than my strong disagreement to it, we don't want this turning into an 'us versus them' situation like you mentioned in a previous post. Sawxheads 2.0.

It's about what I expected. I wouldn't say it was necessarily good, but I definitely wouldn't say it was bad either. I hate losing Vazquez. But outside of that, I think that both the present and the future have been upgraded a little bit.

Supposedly, Bloom set the asking prices for JD, Eovaldi, and others high. And rightly so, IMO.

Coming from the supposed team leader, this is not a good thing for Bogaerts to say. He was being honest, and yes, you can acknowledge that losing Vazquez hurts, but don't sell your remaining teammates short. Show some confidence in yourself and your remaining teammates to be good enough to get the job done.

In my defense, I have acknowledged mistakes made by Bloom. His overall philosophy, however, is spot on.

Of course having a strong farm system doesn't guarantee anything. It's only my opinion, but building a strong franchise starts with building a strong farm system. Everything else a team does should revolve around that.

Bloom was never going to make a blockbuster type of deal this season, even if we hadn't had the awful July that we had. The current team is improved, if only slightly, and the future outlook is improved, if only slightly. The fine line that Bloom was walking was a tough one. Perhaps the best moves will end up being the ones not made. The onus is on the existing players to do their jobs.

Hosmer is not a game changer, but he does represent an upgrade. With San Diego eating nearly all of his salary, Hosmer has virtually no risk attached to him. If Hosmer plays well, the Sox can take their time with Casas. If Hosmer stinks, trade or DFA him with little loss.
