  1. Yes, he was. Kimbrel brought that much value to the team last year. But just as I would not pay Vaz $12 mil a year, I would not pay Kimbrel $26.3 mil a year.
  2. I'm not sure that Pom was ever supposed to be our #3 starter. Either way, I don't think that's relevant to the argument now. Clearly we are discussing who our #5 starter should be.
  3. He has indeed. Dombrowski has done an excellent job for the short term teams. As one of his critics, I have never denied that.
  4. I agree, which is my point. I'm trying to make the point that just because an out was made on the bases, it doesn't mean that our runners are being stupid or boneheaded. It's a risk you take when being aggressive.
  5. If he brought $12 mil worth of wins to the Sox, he was worth $12 mil to the Sox.
  6. All we need to do is play .500 ball against the Yankees in the remainder of our games with them and they will have a very difficult time catching us. Of course, it would be preferable to go ahead and put the nail in their proverbial coffin.
  7. After the win, I have a feeling that the Sox are going to keep Bogaerts out of the line up again, even if he feels like he can go, which I think would be the wise thing to do. The Sox have had pretty good success against Severino, especially at Fenway.
  8. I have to give Dombrowski a lot of credit for his midseason acquisitions, not only this year, but with Nunez last year and Ziegler the year before. He seems to have that knack. I am one who didn't think we needed to get a 2B, but his play last night was refreshing to see. I love the huge smile on his face coming off the field when all of his teammates were high-fiving him for his outstanding play.
  9. The team was hopeful that he would be able to catch today, if needed. Their plan was to start Leon today anyway. If Swihart can't go, I'm sure the Sox will make a move.
  10. Agree with both of you.
  11. No it doesn't, but wasn't that supposed to be the whole idea of getting Britton? The Yankees were supposed to be able to shorten games to 3 innings. LOL
  12. A thought about Jackie's base running play with the terrific slide that resulted in a run: Smart heads up base running or boneheaded mistake? My point is that this is what happens when the team pushes an aggressive base running philosophy. If he had been thrown out, many people would have immediately said "another stupid out on the bases". But what if he's safe and scores a run?
  13. That was awesome. Simply awesome.
  14. Good point! It's been pointed out by one of the beat writers that Mookie was struggling coming out of the ASB. After 2 days off, he comes out and does that. It might be purely coincidence, but maybe Cora's philosophy of resting players has more to it than meets the eye.
  15. Fans tend to be impatient. We see that all the time. We both know that FOs cannot run their teams based on rash (impatient) decisions (see Blake Swihart, 2016). If it were crunch time for the Sox, it might be a different story. Right now, we have the luxury of being able to be more patient with Pom.
  16. I think some of it also has to do with the fact that last night's performance was against the Yankees and we ended up with a very feel good win. And Pom's performance resulted in a loss.
  17. I was going to mention something similar in the game thread, but I didn't want to spoil the good mojo we have going right now. Pom's bottom line against the Phillies was better than Johnson's bottom line last night.
  18. Solid posts Dojji. I will point out that Dombrowski does not subscribe to the sunk cost fallacy. He clearly showed that when he started Shaw over Pablo in 2016, then again when DFAing both Pablo and Hanley. I think it's in the team's best interest to see if Pom can regain what he had last year as a starter, meaning I think Pom gets another start or two. He was okay enough in his last start to warrant another start. I'm not saying that Johnson isn't more deserving at this point, I just think the team needs to figure Pom out.
  19. Let's hope Swihart's tweaked hamstring does not keep him out for any long period of time. The team sounds optimistic about it and are calling it 'day to day', but hamstrings can be tricky.
  20. I disagree with that. He was worth $12 mil to the team whether the market will bear that out or not. At any rate, his contract was not for $12 mil per year.
  21. Also, as far as last night's game goes, Red Sox BP > Yankees BP
  22. I agreed with your point about Workman in the game thread, but I'll agree with it again here. Workman has been solid for us. Workman has the misfortune of having options left, so he tends to be the odd man out.
  23. Good point about Workman. He's been solid for us. Getting that extra inning from him did indeed save another arm in our pen.
  24. What an amazing game. That was probably the most fun game of the season. A big shout out to Pearce for his 3 HRs and to Kinsler for his offensive contributions, but especially for his excellent defense in the top of the 7th. Props all around to our offense. Also, a shout out to Dombrowski for his midseason trades. He has an innate ability to find the right guys before the deadline.
  25. I was actually quite (pleasantly) surprised that Cashman didn't add a higher impact player at the deadline. Britton is great, but how much can you really improve a pen that was already the best? Adding Happ and Lynn just didn't instill any angst in me. That said, do the Yankees really need Machado? deGrom, I can see, but like the Red Sox, the Yankees weren't really in dire need of someone requiring the team to give up the top prospects.
