  2. Such is the life of a player with options.
  3. I would not give Pom a very long leash.
  4. I know how poorly Pom has pitched and how well Johnson has pitched. Johnson has certainly earned the spot in the rotation based on performance. That said, the Sox have to determine if there is any chance that Pom can return to last year's form. It's in the best interest of the team. Patience.
  5. I don't want to rehash the entire argument. Suffice it to say that I am thrilled with our current team.
  6. And now we know why. Maybe also part of the reason why he did not pinch hit last night.
  7. I trust Cora too. Plus, Pearce has been hitting really well. I just thought it was 'odd', as Cora usually does not sit a starter for what will now be the 3rd game in a row.
  8. LOL That had me cracking up way much more than it should have.
  9. I think that's a valid point. I posted elsewhere that if anything, I think I would have pinch hit for the, at times, overanxious Devers, but what would that have done to his confidence? I'm good with Cora leaving the original hitters in.
  10. The way you manage in the playoffs is very different than the way you manage in the regular season.
  11. I believe that there are 10 games left, but point taken. Happ has pitched well against us. Regardless, the Sox are in the driver's seat.
  12. 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. J.D. Martinez ® DH 4. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 5. Steve Pearce ® 1B 6. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 7. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 8. Sandy Leon (S) C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF Interesting to note that Moreland is sitting again against another right handed pitcher. Hmmm.
  13. UGH Don't remind me.
  14. Beeks was the Sox #6 rated prospect. In the Rays system, he is ranked as their #16 prospect.
  15. The Yankees got some good pieces. I don't see how Britton helps a great deal when their BP was already a strength. Happ will help because the Yankees sorely needed another starter. These moves might allow the Yankees to keep pace with us now. Or not.
  16. The cliff is definitely looming. As for this year, the Sox are good to go.
  17. Plus, we'd still have a respectable farm.
  18. When you're building a farm system, you don't deal prospects until the time is right. You try to keep the team competitive with short term FA signings. I have no doubt that had Ben still been here, he would have dealt some prospects in 2016. I also have no doubt that the team would have made the playoffs all 3 years if Ben were still here.
  19. If Swihart can continue to play decently, an expanded role for him would help not only him, but Leon as well.
  20. The jury is still out on Swihart. It's been far too small a sample to determine anything. I'm just saying that he hasn't embarrassed himself out there yet.
  21. I actually think the decision to keep Pom in the rotation, for now, is Dombrowski's decision. I also think it's the right decision. We need to give Pom another look or two.
  22. Well said. The Sox need to take care of their own business, one game at a time. I feel good about this team and the division title, but there's still a lot of games remaining.
  23. Swihart made two very nice defensive plays at the plate last night. There was a pitch in the dirt that he tried to backhand rather than block with his body, which resulted in a baserunner advancing a base, but it did not cost us a run. On the whole, so far, so good with Blake.
  24. I don't quite agree with all of Cora's ideas about giving players days off, in particular when he rests 3 starters in the same game, but on the whole, this philosophy seems to be working very well. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. I suppose the true test will come in the playoffs, but having players healthy and rested will be important come October.
