  1. Nice! I forgot about you being at that game! That is the exact type of game that I would love to see in person. Hopefully Price was taking notes. LOL
  2. These are all fair points. IMO, whether we like Pom or not, whether he is a better pitcher currently than Johnson or not, whether it's fair to Johnson or not, it is in the team's best interest to give Pom another start or two. If our situation were more dire in terms of current standings, I would probably say not, but I think we can afford to do so. I would keep him on a very short leash though.
  3. Ha! Love it!
  4. On the topic of signing Betts to a 10 year deal, yes, he will only be 28 when said deal would begin. That is the age when players typically peak, with decline typically beginning in the early 30s and occurring rapidly after that. Mookie may be able to defy 'typical'. Then again, he might not. Look at Pujols. He put up MVP numbers until roughly the age of 30, then declined gradually for 2 years, and significantly after that. It's too big of a risk. Imagine having to deal with that contract for 5 years if Mookie follows a pattern similar to Pujols. Are 5 MVP years worth possibly also dealing with 5 years of replacement level?
  5. I don't ever count a team out (or in) until the math says that they are out. That said, I think that we really just need to play .500 ball against the Yankees. If we do that in our remaining games, it will make it very difficult for them to catch us. That said, let us not forget the collapse of 2011. One game at a time. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
  6. I fully endorse this post.
  7. There are not lots of Dombrowski haters. I hate what he has done to our farm system. That's no secret. You, yourself, agree with my opinion of that. I don't think anyone has remotely criticized him for the overall work of putting our current team together. Maybe a move here or a move there, but we are all thrilled with our current team.
  8. It's funny, because I used to always say the same thing about Cashman's pick ups. It seemed like every player that he added miraculously had a career revival after joining the Yankees. Not so much recently.
  9. No letting up! WIN!!!
  10. I just can't fathom that kind of money and # of years for any player. There was a time when there were a select handful of players (ARod in his prime is one of them, and Mookie would certainly be another) that I would have broken the bank for, but I have since changed my opinion on even that select few.
  11. Should I be embarrassed that when I heard the Sox were bringing up Tony Renda, I said who? He seems to have pretty decent numbers. I completely agree about Mookie at 2B.
  12. I certainly hope that this does not become a regular thing. It's not that I don't think that Mookie can handle it, it's that I think it's extremely risky in terms of injury. My understanding is that Lin is injured as well.
  13. Some quotes from Cora after last night's game: "I know what I said," Cora said. "I know I feel about it, and now they know how I feel about it. I don't appreciate them throwing at Mookie Betts' head. If they felt an 0-2, backdoor sinker had intent, well the first pitch of the game went right at the head of the best player in baseball. There's intent. It is what it is. We won the game and we'll move on." Cora was asked if the bad blood between the Yankees and the Red Sox could spill into Saturday at Fenway Park for Game 3 of the series. "I don't know," he said. "We scored four runs in less than six innings. Is that a quality start?" My man.
  14. Rick Freaking Porcello What else needs to be said about last night's game? That game was very entertaining, but in a much different way than Thursday's game was. We already have the split. Let's go for the kill!
  15. LOL Emp. I wasn't hoping for it, but truth be told, I probably would have enjoyed it if it happened. Just not at the head. That said, it was more important to close out that game and get the win. You don't want to go messing with stuff like that and risk putting a runner on base.
  16. Seattle has been playing well above their Pythagorean W-L record for a while. Their slide was bound to happen. Houston, OTOH, is 6 games below their Pythagorean W-L. Based on run differential, I don't see the As catching the 'Stros. Houston is a far better team. It's those random 1 run games that no one wants to believe me about.
  17. I never said he didn't deserve it.
  18. I get all that. I still find it disheartening that, too often, it's all about the money.
  19. There are definitely base running outs that are boneheaded. I don't argue that. My contention is, however, that most of the base running outs can be attributed to aggressiveness.
  20. I am extremely pleased with JD's contract.
  21. Which is why you cannot make this the norm. Which, in turn, is why you need a strong farm system.
  22. And Pearce is our 3rd catcher in an emergency.
  23. Cora said that Moreland is healthy, but after last night's performance, he is going with Pearce. In other words, he is riding the hot hand. The odd thing is, even though I am not a believer in the hot hand, and the overall numbers favor Moreland, I tend to agree with Cora's decision. I guess it's a 'don't mess with what worked so well' feeling.
