  1. My future track shows those storms breaking up before reaching Boston. Hopefully, we won't see any rain delays.
  2. Happ is officially on the DL. Luis Cessa will likely make his start, unless he is needed out of the pen before that.
  3. I think Fangraphs values defense more than most fans do, and that is reflected in their WAR values. That said, catcher defense is difficult to measure.
  4. It's how Fangraphs values the worth of each win. It doesn't mean that any team is likely to shell out that kind of money for Vaz in free agency, but he did bring that much worth to the team.
  5. No one will be whining if they beat the other team, regardless of who's on the DL. I would just prefer to beat them when they have their best on the field. It's kind of the same way I feel about getting to the WS. It would be more enjoyable if we beat the Yankees en route, but I won't be crying if they get eliminated in the wildcard game.
  6. To add to that, Bogaerts is available off the bench tonight and Cora expects him to start tomorrow. Sale is expected to pitch in the 2nd game against the Jays.
  7. Vaz was extended for an AAV of roughly $4.5 mil per year for a relatively short period of 3 years. The length of contract alone, IMO, makes it a good extension, not to mention the AAV and his age. Vaz was worth $12.7 mil last year. Using the argument that he is having a bad season this year is hindsight.
  8. I disagree. I really liked the signing when it happened, and I still like it now, despite the way things have turned this year.
  9. Vazquez won me over with his defense when he was first called up in 2014. I have been a huge fan since. He has had a rather disappointing season defensively, but I don't think his defense is overrated. Time will tell whether he can pick things back up defensively. That said, I am also a Leon fan (just of fan of defensive catchers, in general), and he has clearly surpassed Vaz for this season.
  10. It would be nice to start the series off with a win. We have a chance to more or less put the Yankees away. Last year, I remember the Sox not being able to do this. This year is a different story, however. WIN!!!
  11. I haven't seen this officially announced anywhere either. Just a comment from Boone hinting that Gray could be moved to the bullpen.
  12. Not definitely, but likely. Here's the report I read: Xander Bogaerts is likely to miss Thursday's game against the Yankees with soreness in his right wrist. Bogaerts was diagnosed with a right hand contusion on Tuesday after he was plunked by a pitch in the ninth inning of Tuesday's loss to the Phillies. The good news is that it's not deemed to be a serious injury, and Boston just wants the soreness to subside before they put Bogaerts back in the lineup. Consider the shortstop day-to-day, with a chance to play before the end of the series against the Yankees concludes on Sunday. Source: NBC Sports Boston
  13. I think Cora likes to match Johnson up with Swihart. Extremely small sample (only 14.2 innings), but Johnson has an ERA of .061 with Swihart. His ERAs with Leon and Vazquez, respectively, are 2.16 and 5.65. If I'm not mistaken, there might be some familiarity there from the minor leagues.
  14. I don't know why they don't perform MRIs on some of these injuries right away. They didn't give Sale an MRI either, which I find kind of interesting. At any rate, the word this morning is that Bogaerts' injury doesn't appear to be serious. There's some soreness, but he could return some time during the Yankees series. The way things have gone in the past, that could also mean that we won't see him again this season. LOL
  15. LOL If Price chickens out, then we get Pom. Pick your poison.
  16. Bogaerts will not play today due to wrist 'soreness'. The injury does not appear to be serious. He is considered day to day with the possibility of playing in this series.
  17. From Speier: While president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said on Tuesday that Feltman wasn’t drafted with the intention of having him pitch in the big leagues this year, he’s also noted that he’s “open to anything” with regards to a player’s timetable for reaching the big leagues. For now, however, the mere fact that Feltman has already been promoted to the Carolina League points to the possibility that, even if not in 2018, sooner rather than later, he will be a factor in the Red Sox’ big league bullpen depth. Maybe Feltman will be ready sooner than expected?
  18. That's a possibility since he has options, but I don't think he'll get sent down. I think the Sox want him to get back to his earlier form.
  19. Ah. Then he is likely the one who gets sent back down.
  20. It was nice of the Yankees to give us another 1/2 game before heading into tomorrow.
  21. Since Vaz went on the DL, Leon is batting .133/.204/.178/.382 . It's not that big of a sample, but I don't think we'll see much improvement if Leon continues to catch 5 times a week.
  22. I think Workman has already been sent down? If things go well in the Yankees series, I can see the Sox holding Sale on the DL for an extra start or two. The roster expansion will help things out a bit, but then we'll have some more tough decisions to make once the playoff start. It's a good problem to have, I guess.
  23. I think you are probably right about the prospects. As far as Beltre goes, do you think that he wouldn't have waived his no trade to come back to Boston for a WS chase?
