Borucki has pitched really well for the most part. He has gone at least 6 innings in 6 out of 7 starts. The only start in which he didn't last at least 6 innings? When he pitched against the Red Sox and gave up 7 runs in 3+ innings. 'Nuff said. WIN!!!

LOL Who remembers the days when Thunder was banned from starting game threads? Thunder has my vote. But also, we need to give a shout out to Max who has had incredible game thread mojo as well.

I have no problem with Johnson starting the 7th with a 6 run lead. I think Cora should have taken him out after the walk, but I understand why he left him in. At any rate, Johnson pitched a good game. His final line doesn't do that outing justice.

I don't disagree with that Ken. IMO, Velazquez and Johnson are more deserving of a rotation spot at the moment than Pom is.

No, but we can get other relievers like him. For cheap. It's up to the FO to find these guys, rather than just going after the most expensive superstar that's available. Easier said than done, yes. I don't deny that. But that's where the true talent of a FO lies, in finding those guys. Pearce, Kinsler, Eovaldi - Great job by Dombrowski.

Yes, he does, for two reasons: 1. He hasn't been flat out terrible. 2. We have the luxury of a 9 game lead to do so.

Actually, what I meant by almost the same value was more along the lines of WAR. Which really doesn't have anything to do with save %. Save % is not a great stat anyway because we all know there's a big difference between a 1 run save and a 3 run (or more) save. From everybody's favorite Mazz: Craig Kimbrel has now blown his last two save opps with just a 1-run lead - is 13-of-17 in those situations this year - 76.5 percent. The rest of the time, he's 21-of-21.

My argument has nothing to do with Kimbrel looking sketchy of late. I have been saying this since, well forever.

That would certainly be preferable to robot umps, but for me, no. Human umpiring all the way. That said, I think they could and should hold the umpires more accountable.

We have had a similar discussion before when we were debating robot umps or not. The numbers above sound about right. The so called quality control that MLB has on its umpires does little good. The quality control that BIS and other privately owned data collecting agencies have would not allow a scout to continue working if he/she did that poor of a job. I will say that the video scouts have the luxury of watching any play over and over and over again if need be to get it right. Do I trust their collective subjective opinions more than I trust a single umpire's? You bet I do.

And therein lies the rub. The UZR geeks are often former MLB players or scouts. They are skilled at what they do. They know the game of baseball. If they don't get it right, they get fired. Unlike umpires, who have a strong union.

And if an umpire makes a bad call, or several bad calls, what happens to the affected stats? Nothing. What happens to the umpire? Nothing.

I get that. But there is no one who will go back and change a missed strike call. There is also not a 2nd umpire or observer watching every pitch and calling balls or strikes to see if the two opinions agree. Additionally, if an umpire is bad, he gets to keep umpiring. Not the case with UZR and there scouts.

If he can go 5 innings and give up 3 runs or fewer, I'm good with that for our #5 starter. The walks do infuriate me though. We are in a position where we can throw Pom back out there again. That said, I think we have a better option in Johnson right now.

And the umps have no one to 'check and balance' their balls and strikes calls during the game. It's one person's subjective call.

I'm not dismissing anything. You are hung up on my statement in which I said we can get almost the same production as we are getting from Kimbrel. I have since rephrased. We can get the same production with a less expensive closer.

He didn't have great command. He had a lot of base runners, for sure. But, he kept most of them from scoring.
