  1. That was me, among others, I'm sure. I posted every one of those statements. I would post every one of those statements over again.
  2. I understand Yaz. I really do. We get attached to our players, and it stinks when they get traded. I was not a fan of the contract, but I was thrilled that we would seemingly have Raffy on our team for the long term. I could live with the contract. I can't live with the selfish attitude. Maybe other teams put up with it and even thrive, but it's not something that I can condone or even accept.
  3. Agreed on all counts, Moon. If the Red Sox had to eat any decent chunk of Devers' contract, I would be way more upset with the trade. Now, as many have said, the key lies in what the FO does with that freed up money to improve the team for this year and beyond. I don't want the FO to spend money just to appease the fan base, but I'm thinking they almost have to do something fairly significant before the deadline to avoid riots. LOL Just make it smart move, nothing rash.
  4. I'm against those huge contracts, even to Betts, but if the Sox were going to give out a monster contract to one player, it should have been Betts rather than Devers. And that's not just because of this current fiasco. That said, I think the Sox were more than fair with their offer to Betts at the time.
  5. Back on point with the topic of the thread, our present and our future are indeed very bright. I am glad that we have a guy like Bregman on the team to lead our young hitters. On paper, our offense with Campbell, Mayer, and Anthony in it should be elite. Give it a little time for them to become acclimated and make adjustments. I think a few reinforcements and this team can compete. The best thing about it is that we have several of these players for many years to come.
  6. The teammates don't care now that he is gone. That is telling. However, you can bet that while he was sitting on the bench, refusing to play 1B, while the Red Sox scuffled their way to below .500, they felt hurt, angry, betrayed, or all of the above. As far as I know, fans didn't turn their backs on him until after he started being selfish. But you are right, he has no obligation to care about fans' feelings.
  7. I don't think the Red Sox can replace Devers bat with a single player. That would be very difficult and expensive to do. Get a solid, veteran bat (perhaps the return of Bregman and Yoshida will be enough?), and focus on a starting pitcher. The offense likely won't be as good, but there are other ways to improve the team.
  8. Raffy is definitely giving the Red Sox the middle finger. The sad part about that is that it's his teammates and the fans that he hurt. Raffy will quickly be on my list of once beloved Red Sox players whom I no longer like.
  9. Dear Red Sox, Please win this series today to keep the sky from falling. Thank you.
  10. We have Bregman, Abreu, and Yoshida hopefully coming back at some point soon. We should also hopefully see Mayer and Anthony start hitting a little more consistently once they become more acclimated. We need a lot to go right offensively, but I'm comfortable focusing on starting pitching over offense. We can't replace Raffy's bat, but perhaps a middle tier, veteran hitter would help solidify the offense.
  11. It seems like our former players always hurt us when they play against us. Raffy is out for vengeance, and as you said, the man can hit. They may not all be home runs, but I'm guessing Raffy will get some big hits against us, stomping on the hearts of Red Sox fans a little more. I hope I'm wrong.
  12. Raffy, you are breaking my heart. Raffy's comments that he will play wherever San Fran wants him to play is not only his way to get back at Red Sox management, but it's also a huge slap in the face, intentional or not, to his former Red Sox teammates and to the many fans who adored him. Raffy may have had good reason to be angry, but he handled the situation very, very poorly. David Ortiz is 100% correct.
  13. Wong ranks very well in defensive metrics, despite not playing a lot. I think his offensive struggles are due to not having much playing time. I am fine with Wong as our backup catcher.
  14. I'm surprised Bloom signed Devers to that contract. As I've stated before, I think Henry and the FO caved to the pressure.
  15. I do agree with you that better communication might have prevented all of this from happening.
  16. That's the thing, none of us really knows exactly what was going on. Regardless, I don't think Devers was setting a good example for the youngsters, and that can't be a good thing.
  17. I was actually very pleased with what Breslow had to say. I thought he explained things well without tearing down Devers. Also, there was the mandatory 'not waving the white flag' comment. Now it remains to be seen what the FO actually does from this point.
  18. This is interesting, indeed. I always felt like Papi was a pretty big mentor for Devers. Judging from what little was said on the game telecast last night, the other players seem to be on board with the trade.
  19. Yes, "repurpose" is the new buzzword for today. I like the fact that Breslow made the trip to Seattle to talk to the team face to face. I also really like what he had to say regarding the trade, including repurposing the money. I don't want to see it going towards another huge contract, but the team now has a lot of financial flexibility to address our needs at the deadline and also going forward into next season.
  20. I never expected Devers to be traded. Despite all the controversy surrounding him this season, trading him didn't even register on my radar. I, like the rest of the baseball world, was absolutely stunned. Once I got over my shock and thought about it a little bit, I'm thinking it probably had to be done. I understand the disappointment and anger from most fans for trading him though. His offense will be very difficult to replace, and he was a fan favorite. I was never a fan of his contract, from Day 1. Therefore, I'm glad we were able to get rid of his contract under these circumstances. I respectfully have to disagree with you about keeping him on the team with the diva attitude. His selfish attitude not only hurts the team on the field by limiting their flexibility, it also harms the team in the clubhouse. There are too many young and impressionable players on the team to allow that type of attitude in the dugout.
  21. It's almost like I wrote this post myself, though I'm sure you said it much better than I would have. I agree 100%. Given the choice between a great defensive catcher with a light bat or a great hitting catcher with poor defense, I'm taking the former every time. Of course, it's nice if you have a great defensive catcher who can also give you some decent offense. Narvaez seems to be in that boat, although we're still looking at less than half a season. So far, very good though.
  22. Losing Devers does open up some more roster flexibility.
  23. No doubt, though it's been sketchy a points throughout the season.
  24. I would love to know that too. There are a lot of eyes on the Red Sox right now to see how they'll respond to this, both on the field and off.
  25. Not trying to make excuses for the team, but west coast trips are difficult even under the best circumstances. Having a .500 road trip is typically considered a mild success. I guess what I'm saying is that if the team does not continue with it's current surge on this road trip, it can't necessarily be blamed on trading Devers.
