  1. I really dislike this time of the year (trade deadline) and the offseason because of all the speculation and the fear of getting my heart broken. I can't really argue with anything you've said about getting another starter. If only Tanner Houck would revert to his form from the first half of last season. Rationally speaking, I know we could use another starting pitcher, and I know that our area of strength to deal from is our outfielders. Emotionally speaking, I'd rather keep our outfield intact and take our chances with the starters that we have. Perhaps Breslow will surprise me and do both.
  2. I don't have the answer to that and will defer to Cora to make those decisions. It's a good problem to have, I guess. I realize that one of our outfielders may be traded for some pitching. What I would really hate to see is Breslow making a trade of one of our OFers or Yoshida largely to clear the logjam, thereby not getting fair value in return. Inevitably, if we trade someone, we'll have an injury or an underperformance and wish we had that player back.
  3. MVP - Crochet (Yet another example of why W-L records for pitchers is mostly meaningless.) Runner up - Narvaez - He wasn't even supposed to be our starting catcher. He really stepped up when Wong got injured. Rafaela, Story, and Bregman get a lot of love from me. I hope that Bregman can return to pre-injury form and that Rafaela and Story don't fall apart. Chapman has been way better than I thought he would be. I thought we would see a lot of 9th inning drama with him, but for the most part, he's been shut down.
  4. I don't watch enough Yankees games to really comment on Boone's in-game moves. (I only watch them when they're losing by a fair margin. LOL) But, I'm guessing that, as with Red Sox fans and Cora, a lot of the criticism and blame for in-game moves are probably unwarranted. Just my opinion, but I think managers get too much blame for their teams' losses. All good points regarding Boone and his player management.
  5. I have no problem with Yoshida doing most of the DHing. I think Cora has done a pretty good job so far of juggling the lineups. As of now, Bregman is reportedly only going to play 2 games out of every series, so that helps some. I guess we'll see what happens at the deadline. I'll be holding my breath.
  6. No evidence supporting what? Why Breslow traded Devers? He certainly didn't trade Devers because of his offense.
  7. Agreed. The reaction from the teammates was telling. I'm glad that no one on the team, including Cora and Breslow, badmouthed him, but I think the feeling in the clubhouse is pretty evident.
  8. I prefer that Rafaela stay in centerfield. That said, I really don't want to see any of our outfielders traded, namely Duran or Abreu. If giving Rafaela some playing time at 2B allows Cora to manage the logjam more efficiently, then I'm all for it. Hopefully, I won't have to take back that statement in the coming weeks.
  9. In Cora's interviews, when asked about what the team is doing right during this win streak, he usually mentions a great clubhouse culture first. We'll never know, but I think Devers was waying the team down more than we thought.
  10. 100%. It's a lot easier to not miss Devers when the team is on a high like they are, but even if the Sox were still struggling, Devers needed to go. I am glad Breslow prioritized being a good teammate and other intangibles over the high-powered bat.
  11. People still bring up the Mookie trade every other week. LOL
  12. So far, Cora has done a really good job of getting everyone playing time. Playing Rafaela and Mayer at 2nd base has opened up some options.
  13. Based on what I have read here, I think most Yankees fans would disagree, at least when it comes to on field moves. I think he probably does a really good job in the clubhouse.
  14. Unfortunately, I can't give you a heartfelt "you're welcome." LOL I'm with Lou Merloni - I never root for the Yankees to win, unless it's at the end of the season and it's an absolute must that the Yankees win for the Red Sox to get into the playoffs. The division has suddenly become interesting again.
  15. Stupid Mariners. Probably the only team that I have recently rooted for them to beat is the Yankees, and they get swept. Then I am absolutely pulling against them in the Tigers series, and they win all three, scoring 35 runs in 3 games. I'll say again, stupid Mariners. I'm glad we passed them in the standings.
  16. I'm not a fan of the ABS challenge system or any replay system in baseball. IMO, it takes away from the excitement and the momentum of the game. How many times have we seen a great play, offensively or defensively, to end an inning or to end the game, and the players can't celebrate because they have to wait for the replay call. Also, I think the umps do a pretty good job overall. And who doesn't miss those great manager ejections after arguing with the umps? I know the ABS challenge system is coming. I'm bracing myself...
  17. No, I don't think we'll see Anthony in CF. Duran in CF and Anthony in LF when Rafaela sits. They are talking about getting Anthony more reps in front of the monster. With the # of players that Cora is shuffling to get playing time, you're right about the lineups being different day to day.
  18. The key is to make the playoffs. Once there, anything can happen. I'm a firm believer that the playoffs are a crapshoot. If we make the playoffs, we'll have almost as good a chance as any of the other teams.
  19. You're right, I don't root exclusively for the laundry. There are a lot of former Red Sox players and players in general that I root for when they're not playing against the Sox. Devers is not one of them, however.
  20. He looked really good. I'm glad he was able to complete the game. I was worried that if he allowed another baserunner, Cora would pull him because his pitch count was getting up there. Bello looked so happy after the game, deservedly so. What a confidence builder that must have been.
  21. I really hate to see Duran traded as well. Or any of our outfielders, for that matter. That said, with Yoshida coming back, something has to give. I'll leave it up to Cora to figure out their playing time.
  22. Have to give a shout out to Bello for being so efficient with his pitches last night. Hopefully, this is a sign of good things to come for him.
  23. I wouldn't have known this was you either if I hadn't seen the post saying it was you. The bold print should have given it away. LOL
  24. It's kind of the way I feel about Chapman.
