  1. I honestly had no idea, but from a quick search, it appears that he was as a non roster invitee. Honestly, I didn't recall that he was on the team until he was called up. LOL I'm so confused about our roster this year.
  2. As some of us have said, any baseball is better than no baseball. There is always something good you can take away from the games.
  3. Every player should go out and play hard every game. They owe that to their fans. But not only that, they owe it to the integrity of the game. As much as I dislike the Yankees and want to see them nudged out of the postseason, it would be unfair to the Yankees and to the game of baseball if the Sox were not trying to win every game against the Jays (and every other team.)
  4. Munoz might end up being a really good pick up who is under team control until 2024. I'm wondering what the circumstances are around him just packing up and leaving the Cardinals. Curious. Verdugo has produced 1.4 fWAR in 40 games. That's very, very good.
  5. I like him. I wouldn't give up on him yet.
  6. Two more one run games for the Jays yesterday, bringing their total to 19 this season. The Sox gave it a valiant effort in the first game. Some more great defense by JBJ. Yairo Munoz - What a day.
  7. Of course the owners can afford it. But they were haggling over how many games to play this season and how much to pay their players. The Dodgers significantly outbid themselves, IMO.
  8. Ban the shift!
  9. That would be fine by me.
  10. Actually, it's my attempt to change the mojo of this team. This could get our 22 game win streak kick started.
  11. If this were a 'normal' year, I could agree with all of that. I still think it would have been crazy, but I could understand the reasoning. Under these circumstances, I am mind blown. IMO, they could have signed Mookie for significantly less money. IMO, Mookie "Dodged" a bullet.
  12. I'm not about to throw Pedroia under the bus, but I agree with your points in this post and the previous post. By all accounts, Price is a very good teammate. He also stepped up and agreed to pay the Dodgers' minor league players $1000 earlier this year.
  13. In all honesty, are you surprised that the Dodgers gave Mookie that extension during this pandemic and the financial uncertainty? I've posted before, if I were Mookie's mom, I would have told him to take the $300 million. Every time.
  14. Also, as I mentioned in the other thread, that state of the farm is probably the most significant consideration, though not the only one, by far. Having a strong farm system opens up so much flexibility in payroll.
  15. I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say when you say that the only valid reason for not signing Mookie is that the Sox did not want to pay him that much. I don't think any team wants to pay a player that much, but some do after weighing all the pros and cons. It's just not a cut and dry situation. For a small market team, I can see an owner saying that he will not pay a player $350 million under any circumstances. Period. For teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers, who are willing to spend a lot of money, it's not so simple. It's not a matter of either yes, we want to pay him that much or no, we don't want to pay him that much. And the long term effect of such a contract is most certainly a valid consideration, no matter how much money the Sox have coming off the books in the next year or two. That's the type of contract that reduces payroll flexibility significantly for 12 years, not just the next few years.
  16. It was not his best moment, but my understanding is that Price tried to meet with Eck and apologize more than once, and Eck refused to meet with Price. Regardless, Price does not get a pass for that incident. But I also don't think that this incident means that Price was not a competitor, that he didn't care about winning, that he was afraid to face the Yankees, that he was a bad clubhouse presence, etc.
  17. Now is not the time to pounce. We need Mitch Moreland type signings for 2021 to keep the team competitive.
  18. ^^^Exhibit A
  19. I was not in favor of signing Price for that contract, but I was happy to have him on our team because he was a great pitcher. He did not live up to expectations as the ace that our staff needed, which turned a lot of fans against him. Yes, because we were paying him a lot. So yes, I understand the criticism of him not living up to expectations on the field. What I don't get is the criticism of his character, leadership, and other off field qualities. That's where he gets a bad rap.
  20. As much as I'm a fan of analytics, I am not a fan of the drastic shifts. Not because they don't work, but because it just doesn't sit well with me aesthetically. We have seemingly been burned by the shift a lot this year, but the bottom line is that they do work on the whole. On a side note, one of my favorite Mookie moments is when he waved his "cheat" card after catching a Joe Mauer fly ball that was hit right to him when he was positioned in right center, way off the line. Good stuff.
  21. While you post in hyperbole, I agree with the overall gist of what you're saying. However, in fairness to Bloom about the questionable pitching signings this season, those signings were not meant to fill 3 to 4 rotation spots. And Eovaldi was never meant to be our #1. If we had a healthy Sale, ERod, and Eovaldi as our #1-3 guys, Perez is more than fine as a #4 and the slew of other pitchers would be fine as our #5.
  22. I was also thinking that in this wacky season known as 2020, we should change the game thread starting rules. The current game thread starter continues as long as the team loses. When the team wins a game, new thread starter.
  23. The bigger take from this game is not the loss, but the way that Perez pitched.
