  1. Trading Mookie did not leave this team noncompetitive.
  2. I agree. I'm not trying to blame this season on Roenicke, but I don't see great leadership in the clubhouse, and that starts with Roenicke. I'm not saying that this team doesn't have leaders. It does. But I don't think the leadership is very present this year. In fairness, a lot of that could be due to the COVID situation. I read a tweet this morning about how calm Roenicke has remained this season. Maybe he needs a little more fire in him to get his players fired up? I don't know.
  3. Not the point. One of the big reasons that we didn't pay Mookie (besides the fact that it's just an insane contract) is because we didn't have the "assets". If you want to be able to splurge on superstars, you have to start with a solid farm.
  4. Yes we do. And Price too.
  5. We stayed right with the Braves for 5 innings.
  6. The FO is reportedly somewhat calling the shots when it comes to limiting the number of innings of the relievers who will be with the team next year. So Roenicke has to put these other guys in there.
  7. The Raspberry Bliss does. It's raspberry with chunks of chocolate mixed in.
  8. If that's the case, I'm a hard NO.
  9. Welcome back Pedroia!
  10. I don't get it either. I suppose Manfred is trying to avoid having teams intentionally tanking in this season with no fans, just to get the #1 pick. I don't know. I don't know if it's still the case, but I read a couple weeks back that there are teams who could make the playoffs this year and still have a high pick based on Manfred's plan. And yes, I've been wondering about that sealed letter that was supposed to be unsealed. Whatever happened to that?
  11. I am a huge Bloom fan. I expect to be back in contention next season and will be disappointed if we're not. With that said, results on the field don't always match up with how the team looks on paper. I know that the results on the field are the bottom line, but I can't blame a GM if he puts together a winning team and they don't come through, either because of underperformances, injuries, just plain randomness, or a combination of all three. This year's offense, for instance, is not doing its job. That's not Bloom's fault.
  12. Bloom seems to like him, but that might just be Bloom saying the things that a GM should say.
  13. My kids like the Cotton Candy blizzard. Way too sweet for me. I like the New York Strawberry Cheesecake or the Raspberry Bliss. I need to try a few of the others.
  14. I'm thinking teams would rather face Cole and Tanaka over several other teams #1 and #2.
  15. Somebody commented in previous game threads about Vazquez not being able to advance a runner on 2nd base with no outs. He keeps hitting grounders to the left side. He did that again twice last night, with Verdugo on 2nd and no outs. Frustrating. In one of those instances, Verdugo did advance with some aggressive base running, but that was on Verdugo, not Vazquez.
  16. The way it sounds right now, we won't be picking until about #7 or #8, based on Manfred's 'formula'.
  17. I love JBJ and I hope that Bloom re-signs him. Not for $11 mil, but maybe Jackie would be willing to sign for about half that for one or two years. I agree about him hitting the other way.
  18. Valid point. Very valid point.
  19. It appears that the Red Sox are trying their best not to wear out any of the game thread starters.
  20. You know things are bad when your baseball game thread becomes a hockey game thread. LOL Too bad about the Bruins.
  21. I hadn't gone to DQ in years. Then they built one about 5 minutes from my house. Not good. Too many blizzards. LOL
  22. I guess his hand was still sore, but you're right, he could probably use a day off mentally.
  23. I am sad about Moreland being traded (though not unhappy with the return), but all in all, I think it was a good trade deadline for Bloom. He kept a good part of the team intact, which is a good starting point for us to be competitive next year, and he got a good return for the players he did trade. I liked his comments today regarding the trades, or lack thereof.
  24. This is why I'm not playing fantasy baseball for the time being. LOL
