  1. The Jays are now tied with the Yankees. It almost makes me want to root for the Jays for the remainder of our series. Almost. Something of note is that the Yanks and the Jays have 10 games against each other in the next 3 weeks. Each team controls its own destiny for 2nd place.
  2. I was happy with the trade when it happened. The events occurring since have made the trade that much better.
  3. John Henry will continue spending money on this team. He will continue to be right around the luxury tax limit every year, and try to reset the penalty every few years if he goes over. He's not afraid to spend money, he just knows it's not wise to tie up that much in one player. I also never bought the idea that we'd be able to re-sign Mookie after trading him.
  4. I agree that the Sox didn't want to pay him that much money, and rightly so. And that by itself would be plenty sufficient. However, I disagree that it is as cut and dry as that. I think under different circumstances, Henry might have been willing to open his wallet for Mookie. Maybe not, but I think it's possible. As I said in the other thread, it sounds like you're saying that the Red Sox should not consider anything else in their decision, just whether they want to pay that amount or not. They can't operate in a vacuum like that.
  5. Thank goodness we got a ring out of it.
  6. He also said not to read anything into that, but I think that statement pretty much tells you what his decision will be. He has a guaranteed contract, for a fairly significant amount, in a city that he says he loves playing in. It would be an awfully big risk to opt out.
  7. Price gets such a bum rap with the Boston media and many Boston fans.
  8. Spending that much money on one player makes it extremely difficult to fill other needs on the roster. Yes, we would all love to have Mookie's production on the team. But to quote another poster, the great JoeyB, "We could either have Betts, or we can have something along the lines of Verdugo, Springer, Downs, and Morton. IMO, it is not close."
  9. I can beat a dead horse with the best of them.
  10. Amen, brother Notin.
  11. Dombrowski's record with the Sox is very largely a result of the great work done by Theo and Ben. Bloom's record with the Sox to date is very largely a result of the work done by Dombrowski. Thus, the report card grades.
  12. It makes sense that the teams with the best players are more likely to get to the postseason. I'm just saying that the best players don't have to be the most expensive players.
  13. LOL The jury is still out.
  14. I did not realize that he had added so many players until I read that this morning. Dude has been busy!
  15. I heard that the Mets players rubbed dirt on their knees before today's game as a tribute. Nice gesture.
  16. Memo to Luke Voit: Put on a freaking undershirt.
  17. I read this morning that 19 players on our current 40 man roster (or 60 day IL) were not on the roster when Bloom joined the team. That's almost half of the 40 man roster that has been added since we hired Bloom.
  18. As do I. And I am hopeful for Pivetta as a solid back end guy.
  19. It takes a complete team to get to the postseason. Spending all or most of your resources on one player is not the best way to build a team.
  20. The best players don't have to cost the most money.
  21. Now if we have the same kind of injuries to our pitching staff next year, then it's a different story.
  22. I'm not talking about our pitching staff. I know they're horrendous. I'm talking about our offense. They should be slugging their way into the playoffs, and they have fell terribly short. With regards to the pitching staff, we have guys coming back next year (hopefully). Eovaldi is not meant to be an ace, but he is very good as a #3 guy. Yes, we still need pitching help, which Bloom will take care of.
  23. Well, Henry could have hired someone less aggressive to take Ben's place. It was the change in mentality to 'win now' mode. But I 100% agree that Ben should have been given one more year. No doubt about it.
