  1. This is something that the Yankees have to be optimistic about in the playoffs. In the playoffs, the best team doesn't always win.
  2. Stupid Os.
  3. For years, Red Sox fans have accused the Yankees of buying championships. Other fan bases, I'm sure, see the Red Sox as doing that. It's an unfair advantage that some teams have, and I would prefer to win without having to use that advantage. IMO, any GM who has the money could go out and throw the most money at a free agent. I could do that. I get more satisfaction out of moves that don't require the team having the most money. You don't have to agree with that.
  4. I think our lineup, as is, looks pretty strong, once JD gets back on track. Pitching, pitching, and more pitching.
  5. I do not like the opener/bullpen games one bit. Like you, I want to see 5 legitimate starters who can carry the bulk of the innings. Bullpens should not be pitching 50% (or more) of the innings in a season. Unfortunately, it seems that this opener/bullpen strategy is catching on more and more. I hope I'm wrong about that.
  6. Yeah, that whole thing with Pom's medicals was a little curious. It's curious why we didn't back out of the trade when we had the chance. That said, and in hindsight, we really aren't missing anything in Espinoza.
  7. I don't, and never have had, anything against Pablo. He's a player/contract that didn't work out in Boston, like so many others. No need to hate on him.
  8. It was nice to see Barnes nail down a 1-run save.
  9. I was looking at someone's tweet earlier. JD's 'expected' stats look a lot better than his actual stats. He's still off from last year, but he should be getting better results than what he is.
  10. When I look at this line up, it looks like a very strong line up. We need to get JD right, but we should be scoring runs with the best of them.
  11. Even though they are still in the hunt numbers wise, I don't think the Os have it in them at all to make it to the playoffs. I look for the Yanks to win at least 3 out of 4 from them in the upcoming series, unfortunately. Please prove me wrong Os.
  12. The losses where you get blown out by a significant margin are usually easier to take. The close losses, especially if you lose the game in the late innings, are much harder to take. The close wins or losses usually come down to a few good or bad breaks that change the outcome in one way or another.
  13. They did it, but it doesn't make it right. Henry panicked and overreacted. He allowed Dombrowski to go to an extreme that wasn't necessary. Also, at the time Price was signed, we did have several cost-controlled players on the roster or about to be added. That make a big difference in overall payroll. Not to mention 7 years is not 12 years.
  14. Yup. A team might be more willing to tie up that kind of money in one player if they knew they had several cost-controlled players to fill other positions. Regardless, it would still be unwise to do so, IMO.
  15. I have complained about our underperforming offense often. IMO, they have been far more frustrating than our pitching. We expected our pitching to be a struggle. We, or at least I, expected to slug our way into the playoffs. I have been very disappointed in and frustrated with our offense.
  16. I have no problem with the Kinsler trade. I think it was a good trade, even after the fact. I'm glad he won a World Series with us.
  17. I didn't particularly like the Pom trade, but I thought that it was necessary, so I understood it.
  18. All is well in Yankee Land again.
  19. I didn't say I wouldn't be happy, I just said that I have a different ideal in how to build a team to beat the Yankees. It is far more difficult to build a championship team without a huge payroll, and therefore, doing so would bring me more satisfaction. It matters very little to me how much Henry's wallet is bulging.
  20. I have stated before that I almost wish that the Sox were a small market team. I fully appreciate Henry's willingness to spend, but I don't think that we have to forego small market philosophies just because we have a big budget. It will take us a few years to get the farm back to where we want it. In the meantime, high quality, stop gap players can be found to keep us in contention. It will take quite a bit of work, but it's possible. I don't follow player development very closely, but I have often wondered about our player development system, or lack thereof. Even though we are not typically drafting high, you would think that somewhere over the recent years, we would have developed a solid starting pitcher.
  21. And I let my imagination run wild, but I'm not weird.
  22. But your simple answer leads to the question of why they didn't want to pay what he was asking.
  23. I would think that the conversation came up frequently in the years leading up to trading Mookie.
  24. Exactly Dewey. If Henry were going to spend without limit, then he could sign Betts and whoever else he wanted. But since Henry is not willing to do that, it would be unwise to tie up that much payroll in one player. I don't care how good a player is, he is not going to get the team to the playoffs by himself.
  25. I did not mind either the Kinsler trade nor the Thornburg trade, even though neither one of them worked out.
