  1. What I've learned to say/think on many occasions following retirement -- something that has brought me great and unexpected peace-- "It's only a number."
  2. Fortunately, it's just an exhibition, so it doesn't matter all that much. And it's given us great games in March. I'm sorta hoping the usOa loses on this unintelligible technicality, just because of the theatrical wrath it will generate on sports media.
  3. Meanwhile, looks like the usOFa got cheated out of a win last night by Italy, As Venus Williams said two days ago when provided water between sets that wasn't cold enough: "It's COMPLETELY unfair! I'm calling the referee!"
  4. I don't. I check the 'big number' then if 'the guy' ever calls with advice I just tell him 'whatever.' Since I'm not an accountant, it hardly pays to 'play' one. I have no idea what I'm invested in and wouldn't know a spreadsheet if it bit me in the a**.
  5. Not sure, Lemme just have my personal assistant pass on my account numbers for you. She speaks English (sort of).
  6. Y, Kanemaru! Get that guy to Boston!
  7. Yoshi with another hit today in a game that shouldn't have been competitive, but was. (Well, until the 8th when Czech fielding and Japanese hitting put it away).
  8. I'm not saying you need proof for a suspicion; you can believe or suspect whatever you want. I'm just saying in my opinion your belief is incorrect, and has no hard evidence backing it up. And finally, who cares? We rooted for Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, Clemens, Manny, Ortiz, even Pete Rose (well, that's a tough one!), bec. they were all great players--pretty much all we asked of them is to go easy on the police blotter and say nice things to children.
  9. I assure you, I don't have a lot of money and what I have in retirement is in the hands of a broker I've never met. I have never ONCE checked out any charges in my account in 30 years. Not once. He could have been spending my money on coke and hookers and I would never have known. Maybe you check your account activity on a daily basis. Most of us don't. Also, I understand completely that MLB has a stake in this and I woouldn't put a lot of stock in their findings. But you have to explain what stake the fed government would have in protecting a non-citizen from a scandal like this. I mean, it's not like he was in the Epstein files or ...
  10. Federal authorities and MLB found NO evidence against Ohtani. All evidence pointed to his interpreter. If you are going to accuse him, you need to state why you have more facts than the feds and MLB and what those facts (unknown to federal investigators) are.
  11. And btw, contrary to what you say, log-in credentials to TalkSox do not work on that new thread.
  12. Wait--don't we already have enough 'game threads'? one for ST February, another for ST March. another for WBC ... why a separate one for US vs. whoever? (one that needs a separate log-in?)
  13. The only thing he's hit in the direction of second in the WBC have been long fly balls landing 400 feet away.
  14. Yeah, he was also playing through injury last year. I wonder too, given the FO notoriously bad communication skills, if there might have been some confusion about what his role would be. Pretty sure players with established track records (like Devers or Yoshida) do not like feeling that they're being treated like scrubs (not that they were, but rather that the FO could not convince them otherwise).
  15. Yoshi goes yard ... AGAIN.
  16. Allowing yourself to be picked off second, with two outs, bases loaded, 0-0, and Ohtani sitting on a 3-1 count?--that's as bad as it gets.
  17. I love WBC, as long as the games are minimally competitive, which alas many are not. Japan/Korea rocked. Trying Panama/PR now-- what's cool about this one is the number of guys (including our once own C. Vasquez) who look like they just stepped off a beer-league field. "Being in shape" apparently has a different meaning in different parts of the globe.
  18. Did you not note the fact that you were the one who brought Shohei up? And he was playing in a game as you were posting? I was responding to what you said, and the fact that he was playing at the time. In the future, please clarify what parts of your posts can be commented on, and what parts cannot. And which games of the WBC can be commented on, and which cannot.
  19. Shohei is the best player I've ever seen; but he was that when he played for the Angels and no one seemed to care--it just took the Dodgers to market him properly. Under the old ownership, you didn't need tix to Chavez Ravine. You just showed up, and it's the only stadium I've ever been in where fans entering pass those who are leaving--once a routine sight in the 5th inning. Even when LAD was winning, the phrase "It's only the Dodgers ..." is one I heard all the time. Now they're averaging nearly 50,000 a game, or about the same number as the Angels did in an entire season (well, I exaggerate slightly). I imagine there was someone in the LAD brain-trust arguing: pay that guy the highest amount you can without bankrupting us, as the higher the number is, the more fans will come out to watch him.
  20. Yoshi, despite not being DFA'd by Japan (who clearly know nothing about baseball,) goes yard . (Then breaks it open with a bases loaded hit in the 7th).
  21. So what? Italy wants him to play for them and so does he. As Drewski points out, having anyone step in and prevent this is not going to accomplish anything.
  22. Yeah, Shohei is the worst thing ever to happen to MLB and the Dodgers are ruining the game.
  23. I am not ashamed of liking a post that says: if you are invited by a national team to play for them and you accept, you should be allowed to play. In fact, that seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to propose, and I am baffled that anyone would object.
