I think there's a distinction here: Of course star players do not NECESSARILY make a team successful. I'm only talking about what fans want to see (like the movies: a bad movie with Marlon Brando is better than a better movie without him, as far as entertainment goes.). As kids, we also latch on to individual players (usually, although not always, stars--my fave was Jerry Casale!) As for me 'trading my fandom' to LAD--in part, yes: I will watch LAD and SD games in preference to RS at times simply because I am familiar with the players (I admit I spend much of the winter in LA).

Yeah, it's odd. Like what did he think? 'Tampa North'? only that magically, the seats would fill? (something that never happened in Tampa). Likely most people who go to games go to see stars, not a team, however successful. I know I do! If I could see Ted Williams, or Yaz, or Rice, or Betts, I was happy; winning was secondary.

Yeah I got carried away. I will never forgive the RS for Betts. So that said, what about the other three questions before my enthusiastic fit got the better of me?

For you economists out there, please explain in terms us dubs can understand: you have a wildly successful business well over a century old; it has fiercely loyal customers. So then, with no warning, you begin putting out a grossly inferior product, far worse than the product of your competitors; you get rid of some of your most popular employees; you do not lower prices; you alienate a good portion of those customers--many (as here) who have been supporting you for over 70 years. Please explain slowly and clearly why this is a good business plan, you know, so those of us who do not understand the nuances of capitalism as well as you do will understand.

And who do you think is a better team: LAD or RS? Which one has players you would rather see: LAD or RS? And as a customer, who would you rather follow: LAD or the RS? Or: how many last place finishes has LAD had in the post-McCourt era? How many fan-favorite, HOF quality players has LAD traded away or let go?

I suppose, as the RS head for another last-place finish, we should all be celebrating that we didn't overpay anyone to get there.

Hmm. Grim thought as it applies to RS. What you're saying is that the 'business' at some point means no more than, say, some investment my bank or broker makes. It's just money and means nothing that affects one emotionally or viscerally (and thus someone like JH can just keep going happily as long as the $ keeps coming in).

I have a question for the small-business owners on this forum: when you feel indifference toward your product and contempt for your customers, do you still keep going? Is, say, the desire to make money and the interest of dealing with employees etc. enough? Serious question. In all my work-related experience, when I get to this point, I either quit or move on to something else.

Dodger Stadium lost all its appeal for me when they stopped offering Jodi Maroni's. They are at least working on some public transportation options (one, I believe, requires a mile or so walk, but that's way better than driving there and enduring their nightmarish parking lot).
