  1. I'm not sure I would suggest Devers stop doing what he is doing (and ... oops, was that another HR?) and follow the advice of "casual Sox fans".
  2. Oh there certainly is! They will pitch, hit, and field even worse than they are now.
  3. Well, at least the RS defense is clicking on all cylinders.
  4. The RS have no chance.
  5. Yeah, Bloom has totally fixed the farm! Of course, there are no middle infielders or outfielders that good enough to be called up even in emergencies, or first basemen or pitchers. But everywhere else, Portland and Worcester are just FULL of future all-stars.
  6. Yeah, it's really a shame and bad luck that, even over the salary cap, the RS just don't have a fair shot at signing players like Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Vazquez, J.D. Martinez and players like that.
  7. So how much time does he get? All the average fan (e.g., me--who likes to watch great athletes and familiar athletes perform) sees is the loss: Bogey, Betts, Vaz, Beni, JBJ ... etc., and in return, nothing but broken-down, injury prone guys (now on DL), or guys with what I'll call 'character' issues hanging over them. Guys like that are, from an economic (analytics) standpoint, good deals. But if you care about your customers, they're the worst.
  8. It's a roster built by a former Rays employee who obviously had no idea what those who made the real decisions in Tampa were thinking.
  9. But wait--Bloom apologists have claimed repeatedly that he's 'building up the farm.' Odd that in those years of boy-genius building up the farm, there is not a single shortstop who could even come up in an emergency.
  10. But the good part is that the stream I get will use the Rays feed, so I won't have to listen to the NESN booth.
  11. Big game hunting.
  12. Come on, now. It's not Bloom's fault there were no free-agent Shortstops available this winter.
  13. Yeah, looks like Brasier's now found his role! And as for shortstop, how come that wasn't a problem last year?
  14. It was to allow for a rain-out on opening day, no?
  15. Luckily I had the Detroit feed. It's actually fun to listen to/watch baseball when you don't have to listen to an impromptu peroration on why hitters prefer to swing at bp fastballs right down the middle rather than sliders a foot out of the zone or why catching a ball is sometimes better than dropping it.
  16. How is that possible? Why, I distinctly remember watching him in AA with the SeaDogs. You're telling me that wasn't, say, two years ago? How did I miss that he hit 139 HRs last season?
  17. Well, Sale looks like he's in mid-season form.
  18. I can't figure out who has the burner account on this board: Henry or Bloom. Or how many accounts they have.
  19. Why won't he be happy? He hired Bloom to cut payroll and obviously told him he didn't give a crap if he let popular and productive players go. Bloom did exactly that. Fire Bloom? The only reason he would do that is to pretend that this the team sucking isn't a consequence of his own decisions.
  20. 100% agree!
  21. So the RS now have a payroll of over 200M. They have gotten rid of productive and popular players (Vaz, Betts, Bogey, even JD), attendance is way down. And the team is dismal. You can blame Bloom; you can blame Henry. But you have to blame someone other than FATE for the thousands of fans who no longer bother to go to games.
  22. Shouldn't even Bloom-ball be able to compete with the lowest-paid team in the league?
  23. Ha. Missed it. Still in LA, where generally we get a bunch of B-1 bombers or stealth fighters.
  24. The military already has a sordid enough relation to pro and amateur sports: the giant flags, the pointless playing of the national anthem, the demand of obeisance by fans. Their relationship with the NFL was exposed a few years ago, but I don't see that anything came of it. Why should anyone's sports career or even fandom depend on mindless genuflection before a flag? or why should you be asked to stand for playing some idiotic ditty, with no official status at all, like God bless Amurika? What's next: school kids marching with white robes changing "Onward Christian Soldiers?" or maybe exempting athletes from service entirely and providing them Veterans benefits? Check the XFL: any player who doesn't obey the mandate to stand at attention for the anthem is fired. (Likely soon coming to a workplace near you!)
