  1. I would just say that I absolutely expected to see more on that one night than I did. It is a choice I am making I guess. Right or wrong, I choose to see some results before formulating an opinion that says we have a loaded farm system. For the record, I like what I saw. Had a great night.
  2. In your estimation, do you think that we are loaded up with top level prospects in Portland and Pawtucket?
  3. I know that I am being cornered here but that's ok. They have not been a competitive team in any way this year. That for one is unimpressive. I realize what a AA franchise is all about. I get that. In comparison to most of Reading's roster, the Seadogs looked small. That surprised me. Stankiewicz was very disappointing. In general, I have read a great deal about the strength of the Red Sox minor league system this spring. Sorry, I have to see these strengths before I believe them. Dubon - maybe someday- Benintendi - probably. Moncada - yup. Players at the single A level are still a long ways away. With virtually no pitching prospects at the AA the AAA level, I choose not to get caught up in the proverbial buzz just yet about how good our prospects are and what we might get for trading any of them. Moncada, once again, stood out to me and he didn't play on the night that I was there. They were over matched top to bottom but it still is a great place to go and watch a game.
  4. Good reading! experts. They are called experts. I don't know them so if they are "experts" - good. Does conjure up questions for me though. Can you be bad at your job and still be considered an expert? I don't know the answer to that one. Probably my choice of words was wrong once again. Should have said that I was much less than excited by what I saw in Portland as compared to what I read was supposed to be in Portland. Benintendi and Dubon look interesting and Moncada looks like the real deal. I'm always learning so I'm no expert.
  5. Simply because I think that our minor league system seems to be a little over rated for the most part ( regardless of what the so called experts say) I'm cooling my jets just a bit but if I have seen an athlete that just looks like the next great one, it is Moncada. Like I have said over and over, Benintendi looks small compared to most of his teammates. Hope he gets to the level we all think that he can get to. Rosario, Coyle, and Romanski look solid but Moncada just once again stands out. He has the tools to be very special.
  6. I'm going on the "talksox" record of standing up and saying that trading Moncada possibly could turn out to be one of our all time trading blunders. I don't think that our minor league systems are as loaded up with talent as we sometimes are led to believe. No one knows how these prospects will develop but he has a headstart on most of them.
  7. You aren't doom and gloom or even pessimistic for stating the obvious. I 'm really happy for Brentz. He may be just the next in a long line of looky looks for the auditioning of the left field position but when I read the negative comments from some here about him I take it for what it is worth. They were so sure that he would not get even a look from the big club that they are having a hard time giving him any credit at all. He earned the opportunity and is doing a good job taking advantage of it so far.
  8. Good for you. have fun- great place to see a game. i hope he plays! I got unlucky but I saw enough.
  9. You know what - I would not trade Moncada period. I don't know what he will turn out to be but just simply based on what he has done so far and just based on what he looks like in comparison to everybody I saw on both teams the other night, you just walk away saying who was the last player in Portland that had what he has? Obviously you know that I've been a Sox fan for a long time and this kid is unique and could be very special. I saw some video of him this spring. He looked a little bigger than Benintendi. In person, it really is totally different. He is just a kid but he looks like the proverbial man amongst the boys.
  10. This I agree with. Now before any folks start telling me to curb my enthusiasm, if you get a chance to actually see him, do it. Pretty sure that with everything that he has done so far in addition to his physicality, you also would not want to see him traded. He obviously is going to be the one that everybody wants. I simply would not trade this kid regardless. Anyone else - yup - not him.
  11. Moncada might be the one player that I would not include in a trade for anyone. Based on what he has done and what he looks like, he may be one of those very special players that don't come along very often. He looks like a linebacker, runs as well as the best base stealers and hits for power. Don't trade Moncada. When you see him with his teammates in Portland, he just doesn't fit the picture.
  12. This sucks and it sucks worse when you look at both Pawtucket and Portland. O pitching on the way.
  13. I could not agree with you more and I am as guilty as the next guy when it comes to looking for that next best thing. 700's eye test works for me. Seeing them up close can tell us a lot. I actually kind of like the Romanski kid in Portland behind the plate. He had a long night last night because their pitching sucks so badly. Sounds familiar i think.
  14. Benintendi is smooth very smooth but he doesn't look as big as the stats say he is. He and Dubon are comparable in size. He is small - wiry but certainly not compact. Once again, he is talented but he needs time to physically mature before he is close to being ready. Moncada is a physical specimen. It will be very interesting to see what they do with him. The Seadogs have 3 propects playing second base and ss without Moncada as it is. If they move him off second base, I think that that will tell us a little about what they see as his potential time line to get to Boston. At the present time, it looks like they are stuffed with second base ss type players. I will add that watching them stand in line up close and personal, if you were asked to pick the best looking athlete on the field, you would have no trouble picking Moncada. He is what they all say he is.
  15. It really is beautiful. The coastal communities are a little too crowded for me but they are beautiful. I'm from rural western Maine. I've only left for short periods of time. When I do change residencies, it will absolutely just be for tax purposes. Hadlock field is also a great place to watch baseball. if we were just a little closer, we would have season's tickets.
  16. Come on - don't forget about me up here Spud. You've turned me into a Swihart fan. I would not trade him. After watching Vazquez - after seeing Benintendi- Swihart's value is greater than most of us think.
  17. not alone at all - I thought that they would get to 85. I actually think that they still will but they have needs.
  18. I think that it would be wrong even if it was possible. Have you seen these kids play? They very well might become good major leaguers but in no way are they ready just yet. Personally, it is quite possible that I am guilty of over rating some of these prospects once again.
  19. Ain't that just the way we like it! Come up sometime for a little visit. You are always welcome up here in vacationland.
  20. Meant to say enjoyed watching Dubon. Also - comparing Swihart physically with Benintendi is a joke. Swihart looks like a power lifter by comparison.
  21. screw the ocean and Portland too Spud. Get about one hour away from Portland, Mass, (north) and you get into the heart of Maine. Seadogs just aren't very good. Moncada, Dubon, and Benintendi will help though. over watching Dubon even though he looks to be about 15. He is happy and has a very good glove. curious to see what they do with Moncada. Sharing time with someone at second base shouldn't be in his future.
  22. Brentz gets a chance because he deserves a chance.
  23. Betts is compact and solid - Benintendi doesn't look to be that.
  24. No one is guilty of doing that. Bottom line - he might be 5'10" I guess maybe but he is a pant load away from 180. No judging at all here just stating obvious observations. You have your opinion for sure and I'm stating what I saw. Like I have said earlier, if trading him would help to bring us a great young pitching prospect, I would do it yesterday.
