  1. I agree with you here. I think that Dombrowski knows what we really need. Everybody knows what we really need. Safe to say that he did not see Wilkerson really filling any need now or later. I think that it is calculated. Something else is going to happen.
  2. I grew up watching the big O and dreading it when we played them. 6'5" and as good a bb player as I ever saw. Because it is a deadend fight, I don't get into the comparison of eras much, but many and I mean many of the stars of the 60's and 70's would be stars today.
  3. I get the fact that it is not a good idea to rush prospects. As good as Benintendi might wind up being, I can't wait to see what the Sox plan is for Moncada. His physical attributes combined with his baseball ability could be something very special. Size, strength, talent, and overall fitness.
  4. I'm not even a Farrell supporter but he really has done nothing that comes to warrant being fired. Pretty sure that DD understands what is going on. So far, his moves have seemed rationale and consistent. Firing Farrell because players have been injured and some on the pitching staff have simply sucked would be an irrational move. Many of us probably feel that his in game managing is suspect but his loyalty to players and the fact that he is willing to make some changes should also be a part of the gig. Like him or not, he is a professional and apparently above a lot of the crap that goes along with the job. The inmates are not running the asylum.
  5. No one is or has suggested that he is the answer to the left field situation but for the present he deserves to be out there as much as anybody else after Holt.
  6. Sorry but Brentz is still breathing.
  7. so about Lucroy - We need pitching but nothing outstanding is available at present. Lucroy would certainly look like a good addition but there are only so many catchers that you can pile up in Pawtucket. Guess Vazquez's future doesn't look so certain? Leon - no? Release Hanigan? Swihart no longer a candidate for the job at all? This certainly would be a case where doing nothing looks like the better option to me unless Vazquez was put on the trading block.
  8. What it tells me is that we could be getting top heavy with management types or that Willis might be on the clock.
  9. Hanley cuts that throw off and odor is out at third. Better throw to the plate and our catcher doesn't have to work quite so hard.
  10. Vazquez compared to Leon behind the plate is a wash. We all expect Vazquez based on what we have been told to be one of the best defensive catchers in the game. Right now, he is good , but not at that level. It doesn't make much difference what the reasons might be for his development slowing just a bit. At this time you have a very good defensive catcher who can hit playing the position. Right now, today, he is the better player. Kind of like what happened with Shaw this spring. Leon has outplayed Vazquez and should be our catcher number one at present. With Vazquez playing most days at the AAA level, at least he will road ready if Leon stumbles. I had rather have him catching on a regular basis as opposed to being the proverbial backup catcher. it might come to that eventually but not just yet. All things being equal, it kind of looks like Vazquez might have to hit just a little bit in order to get his job back.
  11. Hey - how about that 22nd prospect of ours. Henry Ramos has been putting on quite a show lately. He has fought through some season ending injuries over the past few years. he is fairly big strong kid. Interesting to keep an eye on him.
  12. he is still a young man. I am just curious to know what he has done in such a short period of time. He has always been a very good catcher with a great arm. Just no hit! You have stick with him to find out if it is the real deal. It may be.
  13. I'm sure as hell not going to argue with you. You made a definitive statement that bad baseball is a direct indicator of bad morale. the two do not necessarily go hand in hand. That is a ******** statement and anybody who has actually coached - possibly I should have said and been good at what they were doing - knows that it is. Firing Farrell might in fact happen. Until the pitchers pitch better, they won't be any better. If he has a strength, it is his personal relationships with his players.
  14. Bad baseball ultimately might lead to bad morale. There is absolutely no certainty that when the baseball is bad that it indicates bad morale. That is a stretch that I can see someone who has never really coached would make. there has been zero indication that Farrell has lost the clubhouse. You want him gone as do many others I'm sure. Guess you think that it might make a difference. Many people just don't see it that way. Personally, I'm not beating the drum claiming that he is a great coach but firing him and promoting Farrell jr. (imo) wouldn't make much of a difference.
  15. I knew that you were in "North". I was checking to see if you remembered! lol
  16. I loved how he looked last year when I saw him. His Portland stats were all great but as an athlete once again he just stood out. He is another young player who did everything expected of him and earned an opportunity. He is young and getting better. he might have a future as something other than just a role player.
  17. You think MVP could deal with all us old opinionated SOB's at once? Bet he could - I'm in. I get down your way quite often. Don't be surprised if I take you up on this. A Sox Summit!
  18. Do you have a porch down there in Attleboro that I could just come over and shoot the s*** with you on? Need some help to keep my Red Sox focus up.
  19. Being the eternal Red Sox optimist and someone who was brought up with the expression wait until next year, have to say that I was hoping that we might catch Buck for a half a season's worth of real pitcher. Having lived though it for a while now, I realize what a joke that was. With as little as he appears to have left, he could and might stay healthy for the rest of this year but it still won't help much I'm afraid. His 92-93 mph fastball served up directly in to everybody's hit zone is nothing short of cannon fodder at this point. If we are going to be heading in a different direction, we would be better off without him.
  20. Hard to imagine I know but I was just being a wise assed SOB there. I'm not much of a Clay B. fan. He is just making himself look sadder than he is by saying anything at all. If he feels better because he thinks that someone else performed poorly too that also says something about him.
  21. hey - all is not lost - the buck snorter said that he only gave up 3 earned runs and that it wasn't his worst outing of the year. Come on. Good to know that we can still count on him!
  22. Unless people here really do know something that some people here do not, Farrell still has the respect and concern of this baseball team. Is there reason to fire him? Possibly I think simply because he is not all that great at what he is supposed to do. Maybe a change would help - maybe it wouldn't. Louvello is a younger version of John Farrell. This is on the players for the most part. A change from Farrell to Louvello is a change for change sake. Good luck with that but if DD goes out and gets the pitchers somehow that we need to have everything will be just fine. If he doesn't, what we have won't all of a sudden start to perform better than they ever have before.
  23. Jack - I really didn't expect to see a roster filled with studs but once again I wasn't particularly excited by what I saw athletically. I understand that they a poor baseball team but once again I was hoping to see just a bit more from purely an athletic standpoint. Moncada, Rosario, and Coyle stood out. That is my opinion. It might not be what others see or want to hear.
  24. thanks for that Hugh. For the record, my comments really were more related to what I saw from just a fitness and athletic standpoint as opposed to how well they play baseball. It might not always sound like it but I am a devoted fan. Maybe frustrated because people see something that I just don't see as clearly right now. I saw them one night - Moncada physically could fit anywhere right now.
