  1. I would be very surprised if Swihart becomes the left fielder for the Sox going forward.
  2. He will not be playing for the Sox. it's one way to end a failed experiment.
  3. In my mind, I have been thinking what Kory wrote. I think that he is absolutely right. I also think that Vazquez needs more .time.
  4. I hope that you are right. One key will be if he stays healthy and on the field.
  5. I don't think that anyone (very few people at least) truly believes that going forward Young is our guy in left field. Holt could still be an excellent utility infielder for us. Who really knows what to make of Swihart at this time. Left field still looks like a pin the tail on the donkey for us to me. Before it is over, it would not surprise me if a trade is made to firm up that situation along with the eventual moves to improve our pitching staff. We all realize that pitching is and should be a priority but if that young cost controlled future ace isn't up for grabs I doubt that DD sits still. if a left field upgrade is out there and the price doesn't include too many of our best youngsters, I wouldn't be surprised at all if a deal gets done.
  6. Do you think so reallY?
  7. I tend to agree with you here. I think that Castillo is also lucky to get a whiff of playing time. I don't think that they really like him much at all either. Left field is not an area of deep concern for sure, but the revolving door out there should send the message that ultimately they are not totally satisfied with anybody that has been out there just yet.
  8. I spoke up long and hard for both Hernandez and Shaw last year and I will probably continue to advocate for giving players who have earned the right to be out there to get their chance. I'm pretty much a results oriented kind of person. Could care less about what people's projections are for future players. It always makes for entertaining reading but usually I'm for the guys who are getting the job done and not so much for the guys that have been over paid to begin with before they have done anything. Once again, I'm not a big Bryce Brentz fan. I'm for anyone who is getting the job done not so much for those people someone hopes might get the job done.
  9. Maybe they can get him for Brentz, Rutledge, and a Marerro or two. Other than that really? You want to give up possibly good prospects for the rich Hill's of the world?
  10. He looked good catching wright - no small task. It is just nice to see a guy back there who can catch the ball consistently, keep the ball in the dirt in front of him and occasionally throw out a potential base stealer.
  11. You may be right for sure. What I would say is that he is the pick of the current litter if you aren't going to go really young as in Benintendi. Castillo out there is ultimately a waste of time. Don't care how much $ they owe him. Brentz has earned a shot if you are going fishing for a left fielder inside the program. I don't like Brentz anymore than anyone else does but he deserves a shot if you are going on a fishing expedition.
  12. They may be. Note the word if in my statement. If he continues to hit at or right around .300, they would be licking their chops. I'm not suggesting that I think he is going to win the minor league player of the year award but if they decide to move another outfielder up and in he deserves a chance more than most based on his performance.
  13. I was a ss and I rarely saw a ball in the hole that I thought was routine!
  14. An awful lot of ifs with him but if he stays healthy and continues to produce as he has been, there will be a lot of teams licking their chops for a chance to get at him if the Sox release him. I think that he gets a chance either through a trade or with a call up.
  15. i loved Nomar just like the rest of us. No one made the toughest of plays look easier than he did. The basic routine plays - not so much . Looked pretty average to me. Bogaert's makes the routine look routine. Obviously it is way to early to compare. I won't compare them anyway but I like a ss who is dependable with respect to the plays we expect them to make. Bogaerts has put the work in and he gets it done.
  16. He might be an option someday. He is still young and he is off to a good start. Got a little hitting streak going. I wonder if Brentz is a little confused these days. He also is off to a very solid start. You would think that if the experiment continues, he might at least be deserving of a look.
  17. This is a great post. thanks for sharing.
  18. I'm ok with this and I am sure that you are as well. But (there always is one) if the right pitcher was out there, my guess is that they would do what they had to do. If there is a choice, for me it would be prospects as opposed to guys at the ml level right now.
  19. I totally agree. I really do just think that his greatest value will be as we go forward if he stays in Boston.
  20. If it meant that we could acquire a young controllable future top of the rotation guy (at the ml level right now), I would trade any of our "very best" prospects. The only snag would be how many of them had to be dealt.
  21. Trust me, i do not and would not undervalue the importance of a great defensive catcher. I basically responded here to create some conversation. I'm actually happy with Vazquez. You are obviously into statistical analysis to a great extent. How is Vazquez doing compared to the 'elites' of the league? What are the numbers telling you? Is he making our pitching staff better? I think that it remains to be seen whether or not he becomes the great defensive catcher that we all want to see. Hope he does but I'm not convinced of it just yet. If he is good but not great and can't hit .220, thanks - I'll pass.
  22. I agree with this. All things being equal, we might have been better off with a healthy Swihart behind the plate.
  23. I'm not sure that I totally agree but I would say that if the best you can do is a great catcher who can't hit .220 is the best you can do then what you are coming up with in your system is piss poor.
  24. His stock is on the rise again. What will they do with him? Tradition says that the Sox will want to see him come along slowly and follow what most of us would agree is a normal progression before ultimately winding up in Fenway. On the other hand, his stock as a trade chip is right up there where Swihart's and Travis's was before their injuries. We need young talented pitching that isn't years away from getting to Boston.
  25. I think I know where you are going with this and I agree. At .225, .240 or whatever, if he is an above average catcher, it is all good. if he isn't, then not so good. I guess that he is getting the job done.
