Stensen's win today was masterful. Phil was brilliant.
  2. his projection has been consistently middle of the rotation. He could be an important piece for us and he might just as likely be used as a trade chip. We shall see. If all things had moved along consistently, my money would be on Brian Johnson as opposed to Owens. As we all know, Johnson has some other health related issues. Not saying a lot but his start in Lowell was a good beginning.
  3. Wait - what?
  4. There is a little uncertainty in my mind about how good Owens is going to get. We shall see. I don't have any concerns about E-Rod other than his health. If tipping your pitches is the only thing going against your progress, then you are in pretty good shape. but there i go again - I'm an E-Rod fan and have been since we got him. when he is healthy, he looks like what he was initially projected to be. I think that they got this one right.
  5. I listened to a good part of the game. it didn't sound like he was dominant just good. Threw his pitches where he wanted to throw them.
  6. Maybe that is why they had the gun ramped up for Chapman yesterday. He is good enough. They don't need to try to make him look better than he is.
  7. Nice outing for Owens yesterday. Still a young pitcher. He may very well still become a middle of the rotation kind of arm. He still has value!
  8. I understand. i've been a fan of this kids for awhile now. If he is healthy, I think that he is this kind of pitcher against anybody very soon. with the addition of Pomeranz, our one time weak starting rotation looks really quite good all of a sudden. Fairly young as well. Today and the future of this team is looking better and better.
  9. I don't think that DD is done. he is a worker and will look to continue the search for bullpen help. if E-Rod is healthy, this is the guy we are going to be seeing. he is a game changer. i've felt all along that we would be battling for a wildcard spot - not so much now. Depending upon what Pomeranz can bring, there is no reason to think that this team can't compete for the East championship.
  10. I have no clue what you folks are doing here but I am jumping in anyway. i have been a great supporter of E-Rods since he was acquired. he has always projected as a #2 with potential to be better. He is a kid and if he is healthy and ready, he allows our GM to strengthen our team in other areas. i don't think that he is done by any means but the need for another starter at this time might not be that important. It is early but if this kid is healthy he sure as hell is better than anybody's 5. he could have great career ahead of him.
  11. No one really knows until they get yarded out there and have the chance to play against the best players in the world. We could all probably make the right call on who "looks" physically ready to play at the ml level and that is about it. Even then the call is apt not to be right.
  12. this made me chuckle - #1 and #2 and a bunch of little bastards. Brian Johnson just had a great start for Lowell. It's possible that pretty soon he might join the bastard battalion . All kidding aside, wouldn't you think that one of these guys would be able to get us to the sixth inning on occasion anyway.
  13. Or reading the same reports published that we all see and read and watching the available video. Believe it or not some of us are as educated and as up to date as you are. We just might not agree with you. What I love is redundancy and condescension.
  14. Holding on to him would be the reality. It would not have been a bad thing either. Any general manager of a club not in total rebuild could lose his job for trading a pitcher like Pomeranz for a single A prospect years away from the majors. the Sox just don't have to operate in rebuild mode. Many would have wanted more than just Espinoza as good as he might someday be.
  15. Not at all!
  16. here is a wrench in the works for you - Maybe DD has little confidence that our boys can develop a starting pitcher from a prospect. It has been done so rarely as been noted numerous times. If I had to place a bet based on the odds, I would bet against the organizations ability to develop a young pitching prospect. Just being a little sarcastic - we have done fairly well without producing the pitchers that some others have. i like Dombrowski. i like the fact that our program is being run by an adult who is tough and who has a proven track record of success. He wants to win now and in the future as well.
  17. hope he doesn't pitch when I am down there - lol - wait maybe I do! Wouldn't mind seeing a good young pitcher do his thing for us in Fenway!
  18. the sky has fallen
  19. Come on - don't you get it! This trade jeopardizes the future of this team. to hell with the next 5 years. We are talking future - future here.
  20. Out of curiosity, what would you expect to get for an 18 year old bluechip prospect who is years away from playing in the major leagues? If he was at the AA or AAA level and was pitching well I would agree with you. There is always a risk involved with any trade but the odds look good for The Red Sox on this one.
  21. Now I get this for sure but if the objective was to acquire a pitcher this year from the available list which included Pomeranz and Teheran for sure, it was going to take a big time prospect to get one of them or a whole bunch of really pretty good ones. Very likely could have cost us Benintendi or I shudder to think even Moncada. Both of whom are on the verge of helping us now and for many years. For the record, kopech who looks very good and is a lot closer to boston than Espinoza is still with us. The other option was to do very little or maybe nothing at all. I'm not happy that we are losing Espinoza but I understand the move. We are better now and quite possibly for the foreseeable future.
  22. This is so so true. I think that it has to do with the long winters. f*** being happy. We just gave up a kid who has had some really good s*** written about him and if we are willing to wait 5 years may be good for a 27 year old All-star who might just be coming into his own. Our future (5+ years from now) has just been sold down the river. While Im on my rant - these 90* days make me long for 3 feet of snow in my driveway.
  23. You certainly are entitled to express yourself here Hugh. It is encouraged. It does kind of look though that you are reading the same information that most of us have read. You are entitled to your opinions but I don't think that you brought anything new to the table with respect to Espinoza. We have all seen the videos and read the reports from everything we can find on him. No one likes the fact that he is gone but the reality is that he is multiple years away from playing at the major league level. With this trade the Red sox got better not just for today but for the foreseeable future.
  24. I was thinking this as well. Kopech is young strong and closer to being with us for sure.
  25. Agree completely!!! Have to have faith in someone who has a track record of successful deals.
