  1. I really think that these types of decisions would be easier if the positional status of some of our best prospects looked a little clearer. Moncada? Devers? Travis? Will Shaw stay at third or go to first. Who catches going forward and what the hell becomes of one of your best talents in Swihart? Does Ramirez become your next dh or will it be someone like Encarnarcion (hope it does). I dunno - in some respects, if you don't really know who is going to be where maybe the best thing is to trade someone while their stock is up. I would hate to see us lose a good one but they all ain't play first or third. I didn't mention Benintendi here simply because his path to the bigs looks clearer. Some of these guys might be just too talented to stockpile. Nothing rash needs to be done right now. We aren't all that bad.
  2. I have to add that his bench coach and once again heir apparent is sitting right beside him. He has to be in on the decisions that are made. Coaches run things constantly by their assistants. Many very good coaches will tell you honestly that their assistants have made them very good. I see Louvollo(sp) as simply a younger extension of Farrell. We second guess, look at things in hindsight constantly. It is what we do. It makes the forum fun. Bottom line is that Farrell handles personal very professionally. His on field decisions may be average or whatever you think they are. An in-house change is a change for change sake and would provide no real upgrade.
  3. None! He is a big kid too. he throws a little harder than I thought he did. His curve is a classic hook. Snaps right off the table. I really did enjoy watching him work. Just 27!
  4. good news is pomeranz's start - he looked very good.
  5. I thought Pomeranz looked very good out there tonight. I like how quickly he works. 93/94 mph fb with an 81/82 mph curve (really a big old hook). He throws a cutter but not very often. I feel really pretty good about what I saw from him. He could a good one for quite some time! Big-strong-young!
  6. oh boy Spud, I hope this doesn't mean you've heard something other than just what has been speculated. He would be the 1 prospect that I would hate to see go the most by a long shot. They are all prospects but he comes with so much more God given potential than anyone we have seen in a long time. It isn't even close. Now, he might not turn out to be the next Trout but if there is anybody in the org. that has the physical tools to be that guy, it's him.
  7. You certainly bring up some wonderful points the but for me is I don't care how good he is, do I really want someone like him in Boston. Probably not. Management has done a wonderful job of binging people of good character in. He may be a fine person, but for me is if the warning bell rings at all, it really isn't worth it. There are plenty of other possibilities which I am sure could and probably are being explored.
  8. If you want him gone, be careful what you are wishing for. He is plan A, and Louvollo is plan B. He has been sitting beside Farrell for sometime now. They seem to be getting along just fine. If a coaching change is made, they need to go outside of the org. to find someone who can make a difference. With the heir apparent, you get a younger version of the same guy.
  9. Neither he nor Moncada has dominated at the AA level. Regardless of what anyone thinks, moving him up right now would be done more for emotional rather than practical reasons. If I was told today that a healthy Swihart was going to be our left fielder going forward, that would work for me. Benintendi may become very good for us but right now he is just the new flavor of the day. i'm actually much more interested in what they are going to do with Chris Marrero.
  10. I did and what can you say? he cut up the freaking jersies.
  11. Yup - not very happy about it but it doesn't change how I feel about Sale.
  12. I'm not absolutely opposed to bringing him up if he is needed. i just think that many people will be surprised when they see him for the first time. I hope that physically he is able to hold up. I doubt seriously that he is 5'10" and I really doubt that he weighs in at 170. He is small. he is in no way put together like Mookie. he may very well be our future left fielder. He also might not be.
  13. As good as he is, i do not have a good feeling about Chris Sale. If you are going to give up the best that you have potentially, you better be damned sure that you are getting not just a quality pitcher but I quality person as well. I like everything about David Price - I don't feel the same way about Sale. I would never give up what they are going to want for him. We aren't all that bad without him.
  14. more I say - all of the more
  15. my oh my !!!
  16. From the standpoint of just being a defensive catcher, i have liked him since we got him. Vazquez's upside may be higher but right now i'm going with leon as the better receiver. his hitting has been other worldly. Will it continue - probably not but who knows. Enjoy what he is doing. Leon is young- Vazquez is young - good problem to have.
  17. Roster speculation = if they are smart (which they are), we sign Betts, Bogaerts, and Bradley for whatever it takes for as long as we can have them. End of story!
  18. I'm thinking that maybe it isn't. Everyone wants strong, durable pitchers in the bullpen. We are seeing a ton of overuse injuries as well as others recently. Since Holt and the rest of the boys aren't out there in the bullpen, I'm not sure blaming Farrell for the latest injury works. I wonder what his bench coach and heir apparent had to say? Koji is a fan favorite whom we need if he can pitch. If he has to babied out in the bullpen, think we have to keep looking for durability. My question - what to hell is going on with Kelly? As near as I can tell, he is currently wasting bullets in the minors. If there is any blame to cast because of a 40 year relief pitcher's injury, i'm blaming our starting staff - all 35 of them. Not sure that is an accurate count(lol).
  19. Leon was a good get from the beginning . A pretty good catcher who just couldn't hit. Now he can hit. He is still a young man. Vazquez could eventually wind up being the right guy but at the moment he isn't and it isn't even close. It is possible that Leon could be our catcher going forward. Vazquez would bring us just as much I think in a trade!
  20. A hitting savant. He was so good at what he wanted to do that you really could for the most part ignore all of the horseshit that he brought along.
  21. Numbskull who could hit.
  22. Manny was (is) a numbskull. One of the greatest right handed hitters of all time but a true numbskull. I was glad that his bat was in our lineup but I was never a fan of the antics that came along with him.
  23. Let me start by saying - correct - i am just a fan. Wanting him to be comfortable playing a position anywhere is important. Unless he really is a poor fielder which I guess he might be, this line of thinking puzzles me. He is a prospect for sure. A very good one. The suggestion that he could be used as pinch runner is unbelievable. He could be for sure but it kind of looks like he might be able to hit. With the tools he has, he must just suck in the field or the Sox don't think that they will need him anytime soon. I would hate to see them trade this kid but his value right now might be as high as it can get. Stockpiling prospects is one thing but stockpiling really good ones is something entirely different. oh - couple more fingers for him last night. Ho hum - hope he gets comfortable!
  24. sliders/fastballs for the most part
  25. Yes - much more to the point with lots of good points made. I do like your points. I don't always agree but that is beside the point. Not sure how I feel about Espinoza just yet. good potential for sure but I do like Pomeranz going forward. We have a no nonsense general manager who is concerned about both the present and the future.
