  1. If it means a better product on the field the answer would be a huge yes.
  2. You are probably right at least initially but a quality shortstop really won’t have much of an issue moving to second base. I’m not sure how much third or second Mayer played before he was brought up. I’m sure that it is a moot point because this franchise is beginning to resemble the true meaning of being athletically stupid. Yard out the same people day in and day out and hope for better results. I could see Mayer going to third if necessary but I don’t see any reason for not trying something different. Arias, Eaton, Campbell would at least give us something different.
  3. Again I would say on a given night we are sending X number of AAA players and bona fide utility men out there and hoping that they will hit. It is unlikely that they will, Either you go with a different batch of minor leaguers and utility players or start trading away anything of current value that you have understanding that times are tough and it ain’t going to be an easy fix. How would you like to be Crochet, Aubreu and Chapman looking at this mess day in and day out. Mayer should be the ss going forward and against prevailing thought here, I would have no problem bringing up your top prospect and putting him at second base. Eaton goes to third.
  4. If the decision is not to bring Arias up, then Mayer should be our shortstop. I do not understand why players like Campbell and Eaton aren’t going to be given looks at third and second. I love the overall defense that we have in our infield but if you can’t score more than one or two runs per game, it becomes just another useless stat that someone can get excited about. The Durbin experiment just isn’t working out. We have some excellent young pitchers here who are experiencing a wasted season.
  5. No one is happy for sure. They really just can’t hit. Outside of Abreu, every non pitcher could be traded and I wouldn’t blink. Our current pitching staff keeps me at least wanting to watch just a little bit.
  6. He doesn’t have their power for sure but better overall hitter - absolutely. For him to sit on a team that cannot hit, is just silly.
  7. I’m going with Yoshida being the best overall hitter on a team that has been overall pathetic at the plate. He should be in the lineup somewhere everyday.
  8. With this group , why does it matter. He is 36 and should not have been signed. Throw him out there. Someone was has to pitch.
  9. It was just a few years ago that I purchased some tickets from you to attend a few games. You are absolutely right the seats for t the most part are pathetic these days. Cramped beyond cramped and certainly not worth the price of admission. I would not pay one Penney to watch this product. They had numerous opportunities to upgrade this roster through trades and free agent signings. They chose not to. Pathetic.
  10. For me, it really isn’t debating who the better player is. They are both pretty mediocre and the trade was ridiculous. It literally solved nothing. Just another AAAA player with what some see as potential because he doesn’t strike out much. Another nothing burger deal to go along with the rest.
  11. Why not I guess is my answer. I hope that Durbin plays better but looks to me like an absolutely meaningless trade. I for sure would have liked to have seen a real trade to bolster a team that knew it was going to need hitting. Once again, I hope that it works out.
  12. I wonder if I’m one of the few who thinks that Eaton should have gotten the chance to play third a long time before making a trade for Durbin.
  13. Something had to be done for sure. Whether it makes any difference at all, we’ll have to wait and see. I hate the way that it was done. Obviously you can’t fire the players, although how long do you continue to yard guys out there who cannot hit. I’m one who thinks that when you are dealing with adult professional athletes in this game, your influence as a coach let’s say is likely minimal. The “plan” whatever it might be, just hasn’t worked for years. I’ll watch when the young pitchers are out there but other than that it looks like nothing I’m watching much of for another summer.
  14. I would have a very hard time getting rid of Yoshida. He is a bat to ball contact hitter. We need to have hitters like him regardless of whether or not he can hit the dingers. I have no faith in Casas development.
  15. I’d be very very careful when it comes to giving up any young pitching prospect in any trade. I would tend to horde pitching prospects. I would emphasize going the free agent route to bolster our hitting. We need at least 2 big bats coming in. Going after 1 legit top line starter is necessary but once again deal from strength and that I don’t think is pitching right now.
  16. I would be very hesitant to give up and give away any potential home grown starting pitching at this point.
  17. I’m certainly not predicting it but I was fairly surprised to see Tolle brought up this soon and I was really surprised to see Early moving up so quickly. Things happen. Some develop and some don’t.
  18. Weatherspoon hasn’t been mentioned much but I agree with you. He very likely might get his shot next year.
  19. It was a great year, but also one with holes. More power is needed in that lineup for sure. We need another quality starting pitcher regardless of whether or not everybody comes back. Bello is a good piece to have going forward but over the course of the last month, I think we did see who is - a good quality number 3 guy in the rotation. Rafaela and Anthony would be the only two outfielders that I think can be penciled in for sure. I‘m pretty sure the metrics guys are going to tell me I’m wrong on this one but I don’t think that Abreu or Duran provide the kind of defense that would make this an elite fielding outfield. Once again if everybody comes back, the issues I see in the infield are at first base and possibly second. I don’t count on Casas for anything and I think that Gonzales is a super sub. If Mayer is healthy enough to stay on the field, he becomes our everyday second baseman. We are pretty close to being really good. As for me now, it’s UCONN basketball - men’s and women’s teams.
  20. Watching how this team has competed all season has been just a bit dreamlike. I can’t imagine that going forward any team is likely to do as much with as little as These guys have done. Playoff baseball is special so you never know what is going to happen when it all comes down to just one game. Regardless everybody in the organization deserves credit for what they have accomplished. It’s so easy to sit back and nitpick every play of every inning, to second guess and question every single move that gets made, and to hindsight everything with the usual barrage of what ifs. It’s what we do as former players and coaches. Personally I’ve been entertained and my love of the greatest game has been rekindled.
  21. High drama for us up here in Maine. Crochet’s last pitch at 100 plus sums up what he has meant to this team all season. Chapman did what Chapman has done all season. My favorite moment was Sogard’s double ( so good). My worst moment was Abreau’s interception of a ball the was Rafaela’s all the way. Center fielder always gets what he wants. Great game, read win…
  22. I’ve watched more baseball this year than I have in a long long time. My love of baseball has really been mostly about the regular season and all of its ins and outs, ups and downs. The playoffs are a bonus for me. Now let’s get there.
  23. An outfield of Anthony, Abreu, Duran, with Rafaela coming off the bench would at least give us a shot at producing more runs. With Mayer at second, I see the big needs next year are two big bats - first base not named Casas and a real dh. I love defense as much as anyone could but all the metrics in the world aren’t going to make me change my mind about Rafaela at this point. I feel sad that in his development it looks like just making contact with the ball wasn’t a point of emphasis.
  24. I’m still that guy. I think that we need them both going forward.
