  1. No one is arguing with you. He is going to get his chance. i'm very much aware of what he has done as well. Once again, we all new that he was close. he may turn out to be the best option. I hope that he plays everyday. I hope that he is not platooned. I hope that he is able to hold up physically.
  2. I have some faith in DD. Hoping for the best with Benintendi. We all new that he was very close to being ready. Now we will all get to find out.
  3. Couple things. I think that we already have a couple of number 2's. I would like to see a #1 totr young pitcher acquired via trade. I believe that the payroll of this team although not endless is still such that a hitter, a real power hitter like an Encarnarcion can be easily acquired. As I have said for quite a while now, i think that Swihart certainly can transition to left field. if he can't, Benintendi will get his chance. Swihart's days as a catcher might be over regardless of where we all think that he should be.
  4. I don't disagree with you much here. Maybe your last sentence, because without doing the research (which you probably will now do), I don't accept the generalization that our prospects are better than everybody elses.
  5. A hitter like Encarnarcion has proven that he is already special over the years. I like our young core as much as anyone. I still like at least one true blue, bonafide , without a doubt blaster in the lineup.
  6. You and I have both seen Benintendi and it is obvious that he isn't 6' tall nor is he anywhere near 200bs. That being said, he still intrigues me. i'm a big Moncada guy but he might be further away then Benintendi. I guess at the end of the day, they are both prospects and in the face of withering criticism(lol), I say again - We tend to over value our prospects. It might be in my case because I really don't know what everybody else has.
  7. It could be too long. 3 sounds like the max for me. The bigger issue for me is that no matter who they put where, I think that they are going to need a legitimate "power" hitter in the middle of their lineup. Speaking only for myself, I don't see one that I would call the real deal on this current roster. I know that others think that there would be plenty of good hitting here without signing a power bat. I still like that big time h/run threat. Is that old school (fool) or what?
  8. My rememberer isn't working very well. i cannot remember seeing an August schedule worse than this one.
  9. I agree with you. Speed is a plus but not a necessity in the leadoff spot. I was just being a pain in the A. I'm not one of those oxymorons either.
  10. This I agree with. Farrell's relationship with his players must be so significant that it over shadows the fact that he is average at best with respect to the real baseball stuff. It seems like the franchise could do better.
  11. That Lovullo is one hell of a hitter MVP. Glad he still likes Pedroia too. All kidding aside, I still think that they will need to go outside of the organization to replace him.
  12. Anybody on the fire Farrell and promote Lovullo bandwagon, might want to rethink what you are going to get from Farrell's right hand man. Not pinch hitting for Hannigan late in the game yesterday with two better hitting lefties on the bench should tell you something.
  13. Encarnarcion is a no brainer sign. $$$ - sign him unless there is somebody out there just like him. TORP via trade and let the left field situation play out with Swihart and probably Benintendi.
  14. I wonder why? Said that he wanted to go to a team that could win. Maybe it is a mid-western thing. A kick right in the royal rump I'd call it.
  15. Going forward, I think they have 3 issues - left fielder, starting pitcher, dh. I'm not nuts about them being able to solve any of those issues from within. Possibly left field and that's it. Obviously the bullpen always needs tinkering but if an when Smith gets back things will seem much better out there.
  16. Who knew? I'm a proud member of the old school common sense approach. I was raised and brought up to believe that your leadoff hitter had to have both - the ability to get on base (any way) and the ability to run.
  17. Now that is a good memory.
  18. I still think that they are an 85 win team. They are finally fun to watch regardless of their record. Some really good young players. They are going to have to add a couple more if they are going to compete for it all. They just aren't as good as many think that they are. I don't think that those additions are going to come from Portland either.
  19. I think that he is without a doubt the best prospect in our system. I would hate to see him traded. That being said, I think that our prospects tend to be over-rated.
  20. For sure! I always knew that second base was really the place to be.
  21. Is this sort of leading up to the acquisition of Mike Trout? We can dream.
  22. I guess that I don't agree with you once again. No one wants to see any of our young prospects traded but Benintendi and Moncada don't look like Rice and Lynn to me. I'm not advocating trading them but for young established major league players, I would get that. I also do not agree with the premise that this is the first time our young players have "had a chance to come up short". I actually would prefer saying that it is their opportunity to win the fing game as opposed to finding ways to lose.
  23. I think that you are on to something here. We are one or two players away from being very good for a very long time. I don't like the trend whether looked at from all thing statistical or all of the things that you can't measure. When the game is absolutely on the line and maybe even the season, what types of players can really get it done. I just don't like the pattern of losing so many very close games. High scoring or low scoring, doesn't matter. We have an exciting core of young players, but can they get us over the top. We get into great position, and come of short way too often. i think that we are one starting pitcher and one position player (the right one - whoever he may be) away. i don't think the answer is in either Benintendi or Moncada. For the record, i think that if you trade one and it was Moncada, it would be a stupid move if the thought process was that Benintendi was going to be the major difference maker. For the right two players, trading both of these guys could make sense. there is something missing here that the youth movement might not ever fill.
  24. I really wish that it didn't seem like just yesterday but it does. Pete Runnels followed by Chuck Schilling (all glove - no bat) were the first two second baseman whose careers i followed. Next came just a small dose of Reggie Smith and of course Mike Andrews. Griffin was poised to become the next very good one. On my earliest strato game, I scratched out Schilling's name and plugged my own in.
