  1. Vazquez compared to Leon behind the plate is a wash. We all expect Vazquez based on what we have been told to be one of the best defensive catchers in the game. Right now, he is good , but not at that level. It doesn't make much difference what the reasons might be for his development slowing just a bit. At this time you have a very good defensive catcher who can hit playing the position. Right now, today, he is the better player. Kind of like what happened with Shaw this spring. Leon has outplayed Vazquez and should be our catcher number one at present. With Vazquez playing most days at the AAA level, at least he will road ready if Leon stumbles. I had rather have him catching on a regular basis as opposed to being the proverbial backup catcher. it might come to that eventually but not just yet. All things being equal, it kind of looks like Vazquez might have to hit just a little bit in order to get his job back.
  2. Hey - how about that 22nd prospect of ours. Henry Ramos has been putting on quite a show lately. He has fought through some season ending injuries over the past few years. he is fairly big strong kid. Interesting to keep an eye on him.
  3. he is still a young man. I am just curious to know what he has done in such a short period of time. He has always been a very good catcher with a great arm. Just no hit! You have stick with him to find out if it is the real deal. It may be.
  4. I'm sure as hell not going to argue with you. You made a definitive statement that bad baseball is a direct indicator of bad morale. the two do not necessarily go hand in hand. That is a ******** statement and anybody who has actually coached - possibly I should have said and been good at what they were doing - knows that it is. Firing Farrell might in fact happen. Until the pitchers pitch better, they won't be any better. If he has a strength, it is his personal relationships with his players.
  5. Bad baseball ultimately might lead to bad morale. There is absolutely no certainty that when the baseball is bad that it indicates bad morale. That is a stretch that I can see someone who has never really coached would make. there has been zero indication that Farrell has lost the clubhouse. You want him gone as do many others I'm sure. Guess you think that it might make a difference. Many people just don't see it that way. Personally, I'm not beating the drum claiming that he is a great coach but firing him and promoting Farrell jr. (imo) wouldn't make much of a difference.
  6. I knew that you were in "North". I was checking to see if you remembered! lol
  7. I loved how he looked last year when I saw him. His Portland stats were all great but as an athlete once again he just stood out. He is another young player who did everything expected of him and earned an opportunity. He is young and getting better. he might have a future as something other than just a role player.
  8. You think MVP could deal with all us old opinionated SOB's at once? Bet he could - I'm in. I get down your way quite often. Don't be surprised if I take you up on this. A Sox Summit!
  9. Do you have a porch down there in Attleboro that I could just come over and shoot the s*** with you on? Need some help to keep my Red Sox focus up.
  10. Being the eternal Red Sox optimist and someone who was brought up with the expression wait until next year, have to say that I was hoping that we might catch Buck for a half a season's worth of real pitcher. Having lived though it for a while now, I realize what a joke that was. With as little as he appears to have left, he could and might stay healthy for the rest of this year but it still won't help much I'm afraid. His 92-93 mph fastball served up directly in to everybody's hit zone is nothing short of cannon fodder at this point. If we are going to be heading in a different direction, we would be better off without him.
  11. Hard to imagine I know but I was just being a wise assed SOB there. I'm not much of a Clay B. fan. He is just making himself look sadder than he is by saying anything at all. If he feels better because he thinks that someone else performed poorly too that also says something about him.
  12. hey - all is not lost - the buck snorter said that he only gave up 3 earned runs and that it wasn't his worst outing of the year. Come on. Good to know that we can still count on him!
  13. Unless people here really do know something that some people here do not, Farrell still has the respect and concern of this baseball team. Is there reason to fire him? Possibly I think simply because he is not all that great at what he is supposed to do. Maybe a change would help - maybe it wouldn't. Louvello is a younger version of John Farrell. This is on the players for the most part. A change from Farrell to Louvello is a change for change sake. Good luck with that but if DD goes out and gets the pitchers somehow that we need to have everything will be just fine. If he doesn't, what we have won't all of a sudden start to perform better than they ever have before.
  14. Jack - I really didn't expect to see a roster filled with studs but once again I wasn't particularly excited by what I saw athletically. I understand that they a poor baseball team but once again I was hoping to see just a bit more from purely an athletic standpoint. Moncada, Rosario, and Coyle stood out. That is my opinion. It might not be what others see or want to hear.
  15. thanks for that Hugh. For the record, my comments really were more related to what I saw from just a fitness and athletic standpoint as opposed to how well they play baseball. It might not always sound like it but I am a devoted fan. Maybe frustrated because people see something that I just don't see as clearly right now. I saw them one night - Moncada physically could fit anywhere right now.
  16. I would just say that I absolutely expected to see more on that one night than I did. It is a choice I am making I guess. Right or wrong, I choose to see some results before formulating an opinion that says we have a loaded farm system. For the record, I like what I saw. Had a great night.
  17. In your estimation, do you think that we are loaded up with top level prospects in Portland and Pawtucket?
  18. I know that I am being cornered here but that's ok. They have not been a competitive team in any way this year. That for one is unimpressive. I realize what a AA franchise is all about. I get that. In comparison to most of Reading's roster, the Seadogs looked small. That surprised me. Stankiewicz was very disappointing. In general, I have read a great deal about the strength of the Red Sox minor league system this spring. Sorry, I have to see these strengths before I believe them. Dubon - maybe someday- Benintendi - probably. Moncada - yup. Players at the single A level are still a long ways away. With virtually no pitching prospects at the AA the AAA level, I choose not to get caught up in the proverbial buzz just yet about how good our prospects are and what we might get for trading any of them. Moncada, once again, stood out to me and he didn't play on the night that I was there. They were over matched top to bottom but it still is a great place to go and watch a game.
  19. Good reading! experts. They are called experts. I don't know them so if they are "experts" - good. Does conjure up questions for me though. Can you be bad at your job and still be considered an expert? I don't know the answer to that one. Probably my choice of words was wrong once again. Should have said that I was much less than excited by what I saw in Portland as compared to what I read was supposed to be in Portland. Benintendi and Dubon look interesting and Moncada looks like the real deal. I'm always learning so I'm no expert.
  20. Simply because I think that our minor league system seems to be a little over rated for the most part ( regardless of what the so called experts say) I'm cooling my jets just a bit but if I have seen an athlete that just looks like the next great one, it is Moncada. Like I have said over and over, Benintendi looks small compared to most of his teammates. Hope he gets to the level we all think that he can get to. Rosario, Coyle, and Romanski look solid but Moncada just once again stands out. He has the tools to be very special.
  21. I'm going on the "talksox" record of standing up and saying that trading Moncada possibly could turn out to be one of our all time trading blunders. I don't think that our minor league systems are as loaded up with talent as we sometimes are led to believe. No one knows how these prospects will develop but he has a headstart on most of them.
  22. You aren't doom and gloom or even pessimistic for stating the obvious. I 'm really happy for Brentz. He may be just the next in a long line of looky looks for the auditioning of the left field position but when I read the negative comments from some here about him I take it for what it is worth. They were so sure that he would not get even a look from the big club that they are having a hard time giving him any credit at all. He earned the opportunity and is doing a good job taking advantage of it so far.
  23. Good for you. have fun- great place to see a game. i hope he plays! I got unlucky but I saw enough.
  24. You know what - I would not trade Moncada period. I don't know what he will turn out to be but just simply based on what he has done so far and just based on what he looks like in comparison to everybody I saw on both teams the other night, you just walk away saying who was the last player in Portland that had what he has? Obviously you know that I've been a Sox fan for a long time and this kid is unique and could be very special. I saw some video of him this spring. He looked a little bigger than Benintendi. In person, it really is totally different. He is just a kid but he looks like the proverbial man amongst the boys.
  25. This I agree with. Now before any folks start telling me to curb my enthusiasm, if you get a chance to actually see him, do it. Pretty sure that with everything that he has done so far in addition to his physicality, you also would not want to see him traded. He obviously is going to be the one that everybody wants. I simply would not trade this kid regardless. Anyone else - yup - not him.
