  1. I won't get into any kind of arguement with you over this . Ain't worth it. Eliminate his first start and what do you get for an era. Probably though that is when era becomes an insignificant stat. Give it a spin, test and contort it. He is mid rotation .
  2. My last comment about John Farrell is that a good coach puts players where they have the greatest chance to perform successfully. I do not think that he does this on a regular basis. Kind of like he tends to throw them out there in peculiar positions and situations and times hopes that they will surprise us all. Not happening very often. Regardless of what anybody thinks Wright should have been able to do as a pinch runner it was an absolutely stupid move. Color it anyway you want to - color comes out stupid everytime. Does it merit being fired - no - the interim guy is and has been his right hand man.
  3. Anybody who thinks Pomeranz sucks is full of ********. He is a mid rotation guy signed as a mid rotation guy. He has lived up to his reputation. Is he soft? Sure - I think so. but what the hell - Anybody who knows anything new what we were getting. Is there an upside with him - of course. But - yeah he sucks because the pigpen can't get the f***ing job done. Get over your Espinoza man crush and give this kid a chance. Maybe in 5 years when Espinoza is just lights out and on the loose DD will bring him back.
  4. I'm fairly ambivalent with how I feel about Farrell in general. He gets too much blame when things don't work out and certainly next to no credit when they do. I have a really hard time not being critical of this move. Argueably our best pitcher who doesn't really look all that athletic. Why? can't defend this one. The only answer looks like it might be why not and that really isn't good enough. His bench coach should be fired.
  5. trust me no one sits beside a manager for this long without communicating with him. His job is to talk and suggest. If you think that Farrell is blocking out the voice of his "bench coach" then good for you. I don't pretend to have any idea what will happen long term but personally I would like to see them go outside of the organization if they decide to make a change. I was opposed to signing him long term as a bench coach. Kind of does look at first that if they decide to let Farrell go then Lovullo will get the job. I'm sure that some will be happy. Farrell and Lovullo appear to be on the same page.
  6. I wonder what Lovullo has been doing thoughout the course of Farrell's moves?
  7. Unless there is an injury or a trade, i would doubt that the Sox put Swihart behind the plate again.
  8. really? I know I'm missing something here. I hope that he has a great career for us for sure. what am I missing?
  9. he needs to catch more too. he really isn't superior to Leon in any phase of the game right now. Maybe someday but not now.
  10. You might be right with respect to Leon. You might not be. It is also a fair possibility that Vazquez never becomes the catcher and player that some think he should. I like Leon's chances right now better than I do Vazquez's. He is performing at a level that is unfamiliar to Vazquez. Obviously Leon is hitting at a level that is unfamiliar to him. i'm enjoying it.
  11. Same goes probably for any number of players and prospects that we have. Judged by the return. The days of hoarding prospects in a rainy day fund and trying to trade them after they get injured might be over. i hope.
  12. It is probably a safe bet to say that he doesn't check in with us very often. With that being said we have some people recently posting here who appear to have egos the size of the original Louisiana Purchase, so it wouldn't surprise me if they thought he was listening to them. The next time I talk to him, I'll let him know where he can find answers to all of his issues.lol
  13. Moot point I think. There is really no question that his appeal as a good hitting catcher would be greater than if he was a good hitting left fielder. The problem is where will he get a chance to catch again? I suppose it could be Boston someday if both Vazquez and Leon step on themselves. He just isn't going to magically move ahead of them on the depth chart. He just needs to get healthy and keep on keeping on.
  14. i think it is a damn good thing that DD read the talksox forum board before he inked that Beltran deal. We got a couple of beauties here who think they have a pipeline right to his office don't you think. lol
  15. sad story for Swihart. He will continue to be a very talented athlete. Personally, I would bet against him ever holding down a full time catching job in Boston. His skill level in general behind the plate may have been improving but he is a long way behind two young guys ahead of him. Vazquez and Leon are solid behind the plate. If Leon hits at all, he isn't going anywhere. I think that it is going to be very interesting to see what the Red Sox do here going forward. Swihart's athleticism and ability to play a number of different positions might just help to keep him in Boston. i would be very surprised if a young catcher with Vazquez's potential becomes the perennial backup going forward. The off season should be very entertaining.
  16. Sometimes the moves that don't get made are the best moves. They went after Beltran hard but the deal did not get done. It very well might work out to be a very good ideal. Please - Moon - if you are out there don't give me any statistics that you think justify not paying a premium price for a free agent. Not interested. What ever DD does with respect to this team very likely will work for me.
  17. if he joins Layne, he will be right across the road from you! You won't like that.(lol)
  18. Ok - you are right - 95+% of us. And who gets to determine when someone is officially READY? As an aside, I don't remember anyone really saying that a platoon of Holt and Brentz was fine. I for one am just happy that he is off to a good start. There are people on here who are trying to make it seem as though they were responsible for the move. Maybe they need a HUG or a PAT on the back. Do some of YOU really care who was right or who was wrong? Once again, anyone who follows the game and this team in particular saw this coming.
  19. glad to see tommy catching on with somebody even if it is the spankies.
  20. You're right. There is no one path or prescribed route for all prospects to follow to get to the big leagues. I don't think that I have seen one move made by DD to this point that I feel shows desperation. We might not all agree with the moves he has made. It would be unusual in Boston if we did. I don't think that our future is in jeopardy because he has traded away a couple of "prospects". I think that we are in good hands. Benintendi provides a definite upgrade. We all saw it coming. For some it just came a month early I guess. Merry Christmas in August I say.
  21. I would like to see Vazquez become the catcher that everyone thinks that he could become. if Leon continues to play like he has though, Vaz just might not get that chance in Boston. Is Vaz a better defense catcher than Leon? I know what the scouts say and what we hope for but is he actually better than Leon? It's a good problem to have.
  22. What you are saying makes sense to me. I like the thought of having a legit power bat in the middle of the lineup. No one has suggested that signing Encarnarcion should be done at the expense of finding the pitcher (s) we need via trade. I also do not think that there is any way in hell that DD would sign a dh to a 7 year contract. 3/4 at the most or he probably will be playing somewhere else. As an aside, i have faith in our GM. I believe that his moves to date have been justified and prudent. I do not feel as though they have been "panic" moves. Whether they have worked out or not just yet is still be determined but they were made not just to make some sort of splash for just this year. I do't think that he is done. This is going to be an interesting off season.
  23. I have heard no one suggest that signing Encarnarcion is the answer any "troubles". It would help us for sure - but the answer to whatever "troubles" you might think that we have going forward? No one at all has suggested that. Why say that? It is really enough simply to say that you would not like to see Encarnarcion signed and that you are not a fan of long term contracts.
  24. Hey - on a good note, hoping that this is the real deal with Benintendi. I say again - platooning him alone right now is a joke. Let the kid play. Let the kid hit.
  25. We are all fans and we get caught up in the emotion of the moment. That is not a bad thing. It is a good type of passion that we all have. I bet that you are right about Farrell and his feelings toward his players as well.
