  1. i don't think that anyone has implied that it won't be an UPGRADE. A healthy Young or Swihart would be as well! We all want the best for Benintendi. We all hope that he is the real deal. Questioning whether or not it is the right move or feeling that it made sense to give someone else the opportunity out there before bringing him up does not in any way imply that people want nothing but the best for him.
  2. He sure did. When Rice and Lynn came on the scene it was other worldly. From a historical perspective, I hope people really appreciate the red Sox teams of the 70's.
  3. Ah sorry - 1975 and the gold dust twins!
  4. You and I have seen and said the same things. I hope that we are wrong.
  5. I find it hard to believe that most even casual fans wouldn't suspect there to be a huge difference between pitching at the AA and ml level.
  6. They are all "keepers" until the trade return is right. I don't think DD is going to give these guys away for nothing in return.
  7. I really hope that DD doesn't give a rat's rumpus about what I think. The good ones tend to not pay too much attention to what is written or said about them.
  8. good post - I'm calling ******** on everybody who is yapping about him dominating at the AA level. He is doing a very good job for sure but not what I see as dominating. Mike Trout he ain't but he may become our best option out there. I'm anxious to see what he can do and I hope that he can get it done.
  9. None of us here are going to know what DD was up to at the deadline. As things have gone, it looks as though by not acquiring a left fielder, Young's slow recovery, and Swihart still on the shelf, and Moncada just starting to get a sniff at a couple of other positions, It makes some sense to find out if Benintendi can get the job done sooner as opposed to later. he is talented for sure. My only concern which might not be a concern is his size. he is not 5'10 - 170. Left field has been a disappointment for us. Maybe he will prove to be the one going forward who solves the problem. We all knew (not just Moon) that Brentz and Holt were not going to be long term solutions out there. I advocated for Brentz to get his chance because he deserved it. I think that it worked out pretty much like we all thought it would. I'm still waiting to see what becomes of Swihart out of all of this.
  10. I agree with the your viewpoint here. DD may be done for awhile but I still see a trade coming for the best pitcher that we can get in the off-season. i for one would not want to bet who among the prospects will be staying and who will be going.
  11. No one is arguing with you. He is going to get his chance. i'm very much aware of what he has done as well. Once again, we all new that he was close. he may turn out to be the best option. I hope that he plays everyday. I hope that he is not platooned. I hope that he is able to hold up physically.
  12. I have some faith in DD. Hoping for the best with Benintendi. We all new that he was very close to being ready. Now we will all get to find out.
  13. Couple things. I think that we already have a couple of number 2's. I would like to see a #1 totr young pitcher acquired via trade. I believe that the payroll of this team although not endless is still such that a hitter, a real power hitter like an Encarnarcion can be easily acquired. As I have said for quite a while now, i think that Swihart certainly can transition to left field. if he can't, Benintendi will get his chance. Swihart's days as a catcher might be over regardless of where we all think that he should be.
  14. I don't disagree with you much here. Maybe your last sentence, because without doing the research (which you probably will now do), I don't accept the generalization that our prospects are better than everybody elses.
  15. A hitter like Encarnarcion has proven that he is already special over the years. I like our young core as much as anyone. I still like at least one true blue, bonafide , without a doubt blaster in the lineup.
  16. You and I have both seen Benintendi and it is obvious that he isn't 6' tall nor is he anywhere near 200bs. That being said, he still intrigues me. i'm a big Moncada guy but he might be further away then Benintendi. I guess at the end of the day, they are both prospects and in the face of withering criticism(lol), I say again - We tend to over value our prospects. It might be in my case because I really don't know what everybody else has.
  17. It could be too long. 3 sounds like the max for me. The bigger issue for me is that no matter who they put where, I think that they are going to need a legitimate "power" hitter in the middle of their lineup. Speaking only for myself, I don't see one that I would call the real deal on this current roster. I know that others think that there would be plenty of good hitting here without signing a power bat. I still like that big time h/run threat. Is that old school (fool) or what?
  18. My rememberer isn't working very well. i cannot remember seeing an August schedule worse than this one.
  19. I agree with you. Speed is a plus but not a necessity in the leadoff spot. I was just being a pain in the A. I'm not one of those oxymorons either.
  20. This I agree with. Farrell's relationship with his players must be so significant that it over shadows the fact that he is average at best with respect to the real baseball stuff. It seems like the franchise could do better.
  21. That Lovullo is one hell of a hitter MVP. Glad he still likes Pedroia too. All kidding aside, I still think that they will need to go outside of the organization to replace him.
  22. Anybody on the fire Farrell and promote Lovullo bandwagon, might want to rethink what you are going to get from Farrell's right hand man. Not pinch hitting for Hannigan late in the game yesterday with two better hitting lefties on the bench should tell you something.
  23. Encarnarcion is a no brainer sign. $$$ - sign him unless there is somebody out there just like him. TORP via trade and let the left field situation play out with Swihart and probably Benintendi.
  24. I wonder why? Said that he wanted to go to a team that could win. Maybe it is a mid-western thing. A kick right in the royal rump I'd call it.
