  1. Apparently they're de-juicing the baseball a little this year, so the number will likely go down a bit.
  2. moon explained it. Those teams of the 70's were my favorite teams too. Plus losing to the Yankees with Reggie, Nettles et al. And my favorite player Yaz fouling out to end it. 1986 was awful but I was a little more numb or something.
  3. It must be, because 1978 has always been the worst heartbreaker for me.
  4. In baseball the word "better" is almost irrelevant sometimes. How's that for an answer?
  5. Right now I'm feeling 83-79.
  6. Not sure why you're including Dice-K and Oki.
  7. "Peanuts" salaries can still add up enough to put you over the tax threshold.
  8. Pivetta pitched well in his 2 starts for us last year. Think there's no chance whatsoever? Sometimes it just takes some little adjustment or other for a guy to do better.
  9. Have to look at total team payrolls too though.
  10. Yes, harmony is in full Cooler mode these days.
  11. The Mets signed him for 2 years and $20 million. They got 8 plate appearances out of him.
  12. Well, if there's no significant change to the system in the next CBA, and we go over in 2022, that would put us in the dreaded Year 3 in 2024. With this 3 year system you're never very far from being in tax hell again. Hopefully they change that a little.
  13. Power. He has a career .486 SLG. And a career .912 OPS vs. lefties. As for last year's BA, Schwarber hit .188. How much did he sign for again?
  14. The Jays rotation has question marks too.
  15. He had Covid right?
  16. Yeah, yeah, thanks for telling us again. We're not unaware of Nate's history or his Baseball-Reference page.
  17. Same here. With today's expanded format both the 1977 and 1978 teams would have made it. The early 80's for Sox fans were days of scorched earth.
  18. We don't know anything LOL Obviously this is all between Henry, Werner and Bloom to decide. I still have a hunch we're going to end up going a little over. The tax issue is also complicated a bit by the fact the CBA expires at the end of this year.
  19. There's no way of knowing in advance. Maybe we make no more moves, miss the playoffs by one game and look back with regret. Maybe we'll think, gee, we spent over $200 million anyway, maybe we should have spent a little more.
  20. I like your attitude Denny.
  21. Eh, I think it's more like, we'd prefer to stay under the limit, but if you see good reason to go over, we're open to it.
  22. Don't forget Chaim dangled the carrot that staying under the tax line was 'not a firm mandate'.
  23. I see Perez listed.
  24. OK, but why are you including Perez but leaving out Eovaldi?
