  1. Dave shouldn't get full credit for it. 2020 was a splendid tank job.
  2. Yes, and assuming the other team will take him for 2022 as well.
  3. You can't really go too far over and expect to be able to get back under. If you go over by $5 million, you'd have to be able to unload guys with total AAV's of at least $15 million at the deadline to recover the $5 million.
  4. Not if they sign Odorizzi and Ozuna, though. We'd be over by $25-30 mill.
  5. If this is all we're doing, I might have to jump in with the crowd saying things like "How lovely-trading Mookie freed up room for Garrett Richards, Adam Ottavino and Kike Hernandez!"
  6. If that's the case, it's pretty close to a punt.
  7. According to Cot's, the Yankees are paying $1 million of the $3 million deferred signing bonus. And the 2021 luxury tax number for the Red Sox is $7.15 million.
  8. Another day in Snoreville.
  9. Butchers might work though.
  10. He signed with the Reds?
  11. Kluber and Taillon are massive X factors. They might both work out, or one, or neither. So anything between 0 WAR and 7+ WAR.
  12. They're not done. Stay tuned.
  13. I'll take the under.
  14. Some guys obviously won't be signing until after spring training starts.
  15. Sure, not saying it's a big deal to anybody, really. It's ridiculous sums any way you slice it up. But as a bean-counter, I do see the value of Betts's contract as less than the value of Gerrit Cole's.
  16. Chaim Bloom's extraordinarily patient, meticulous and disciplined approach can do a number on our heads, I have to admit.
  17. You're not a believer that the present value of money is a real thing, I guess.
  18. I never thought it was a foregone conclusion. I thought it was a legitimate risk. We'll never know how it would have played out without a pandemic. Also, as you know, while technically it's the largest contract in history, with the deferrals the present value is lower than a few others.
  19. And you know what fans are like. They're okay with trading prospects until/unless the prospects turn out to be stars with other teams. Then they're screaming bloody murder.
  20. Coors Field - yikes. They need to move the fences out or something.
  21. This was a nice salary dump acquisition by the Cards. They didn't give up any premier prospects. So I'm sure there are no moaning Cards fans. If they gave up a blue chipper it might be a different story.
  22. What an unusual transaction. The Cards gave Arenado an opt-out after 2022, to go with the one he already had after 2021.
  23. You're so thoughtful.
  24. Pedroia's autobiography Born to Play is a good read. Came out way back in 2010.
