  1. It's probably fair to say that the Dodgers figured they had a shot at keeping him and that was an extra inducement in the deal. And the Red Sox should have been aware of this, needless to say.
  2. So if he did get to free agency you think he would have eliminated the Red Sox from the bidding? If Mookie was the hard cold businessman we think, that would not be smart business. But it's all speculation and a moot point either way.
  3. The only possible cause for regret is that they traded him to the team that was in the best position to sign him to an extension. I'll always wonder if they took that into consideration or if they assumed Mookie wanted to hit free agency. As far as how Bloom did on the return, I'd say he did great.
  4. If Trout stays healthy, which is always a big if, that contract will pay dividends to the team. He is the elitest of the elite.
  5. Not all fans are created equal, of course. If you go on any team's fan forum site you will see a lot of discussion of contracts and what kind of job the GM is doing. Playing the armchair GM, like playing fantasy sports, has become a popular pastime.
  6. My first thought was I'm glad the Yankees didn't get him.
  7. You're 100% correct on that. What Thunder is referring to is the new rules about total mound visits per game. Maybe Girardi thought the new rules wiped out the second mound visit rule. If so, that certainly does nothing to alter your take that he's a moron.
  8. To each their own. None of it matters anyway. Just stuff to jabber about.
  9. It would be quite the f***up by the Dodgers if it turns out Bauer's 2020 numbers were stickum-related.
  10. Bauer's balls are under scrutiny.
  11. Nah. They saw fit to give Rendon $245 mill. They've got plenty of dough. Any failures in team construction are on them. And Trout deserves every penny. The guy is unbelievable.
  12. Let's convert WAR to a rate stat. Ripken Average of bWAR and fWAR = 94.2 PA's 12,883 / 600 = 21.47 seasons of 600 PA's Average WAR /season = 4.39 Evans Average of bWAR and fWAR = 66.1 PA's 10,569 / 600 = 17.62 seasons of 600 PA's Average WAR /season = 3.75 So as a rate stat, Ripken's WAR is 17% better.
  13. The Yankees were favored to win the division and perhaps run away with it. Right now they look like a team with a lot of issues. It's early, of course.
  14. What numbers do you have to back up the claim about defense? FanGraphs shows quite the opposite.
  15. A guy with a career bWAR of 95.9 and 2 MVP's doesn't belong in the Hall?
  16. In 2 starts Kluber has logged a total of 6.1 innings.
  17. Bloom isn't here, though. Maybe you could take a stab at it with real names and numbers.
  18. I had numerous options.
  19. JBJ, huh? Sure, we could get anybody to play DH. Who cares if they're a .750 OPS or a .950 OPS hitter? What's 200 points of OPS?
  20. I think that says it all.
  21. Yeah, there's a big difference between an OPS+ of 148 and an OPS+ of 147.
  22. His Red Sox stats are pretty darn close.
  23. Might as well throw Manny in there as a DH too, because he wasn't a good fielder. Could have easily replaced him too, right?
