  1. Breslow really shows some stones making a trade like that.
  2. bWAR treats him vastly better. And thereby hangs a tale.
  3. I don't really understand how a mutual option works.
  4. Good to see Bello's lucky rabbit paw is still working. That's not a knock - he just seems to have a knack of getting good run support.
  5. It's an indisputable fact that velocity and spin have increased a lot and everyone agrees it's put a lot more stress on pitcher's arms. And pitchers aren't getting all these surgeries just for fun. Nolan Ryan is not a good source because he was a freak of nature. That's a compliment. Looking at run scoring over the years is fair and would require a deeper dive.
  6. 60%? Crochet, Houck and Buehler have made their starts.
  7. The problem is they throw a lot harder and put a lot more spin on the ball. Fitts reportedly added a couple MPH to his fastball since last year - but now he's injured.
  8. Injured pitchers are a pretty commonplace issue these days.
  9. Unfortunately I have to concede Splintered's point on this one. The Sox record has to be discounted for a relatively soft schedule, including all 7 of our 2025 games against the White Sox. Which doesn't mean the Sox aren't capable of playing better than they have so far.
  10. When you see what the Padres got for Soto, it makes the Sox return look pretty light. As you keep pointing out of course, part of the Sox return was getting $45 million shaved off their obligation to Price. Maybe Breslow pulled a little rabbit out of the hat by getting Fitts for Verdugo.
  11. The Padres did much better with the Soto trade, that was a bit irksome to see.
  12. I thought that started as a platoon-y thing until Cooper established himself as toast, unfortunately.
  13. Hey, you're right about as often as the rest of us. 😉
  14. I think Cora would love to have 'co-closers' that he can slot in the 8th or 9th depending on matchups.
  15. You're right, it did get held up a week or two because of concerns over Graterol's medicals.
  16. You're a hard marker, man. 🙂
  17. Once they decided they wouldn't be signing him it made sense to trade him, I'm not arguing with that, that's never been my issue. I always thought it was strange that the trade came so late, though. When the Padres traded Soto it happened on December 7. Betts wasn't traded until February 10. Maybe the Sox were worried about the effect on ticket sales, is the only thing I can figure.
  18. Yes. I have just spent too much time on baseball forums, and it's one of those things you read so many times. I hereby stipulate that it makes perfect sense to trade anyone when you know you're getting something better in return. I'm not sure who would argue otherwise. Maybe what I don't like is that it kind of implies there are others who get too attached to players.
  19. Not picking on you, but everybody says this. I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't trade Player A even if they knew the return was better. OTOH, what GM is going to trade you something they know is better than what they're getting back?
  20. But I think Kimmi was talking about the overall records. Makes more sense to compare the .133 against all other teams to the .429 against us.
  21. Of course. But we can't control the way others choose to express themselves, assuming they're not breaking any forum rules. Everybody does their fan thing their own way. I think we have a pretty good cross-section of fandom here. I also think a lot of what occurs on sports message boards is some sort of cathartic behaviour (especially game threads). I'm certainly guilty of using it that way some times myself.
  22. '3rd highest of all time' doesn't mean much when prices are rising all the time and we're talking about the 2nd best player in the game at the time. Their best offer didn't get to $300 million. It was short of market value. They shouldn't get a pass for losing one of the best players in franchise history because he wouldn't sign a 'team friendly' deal. Devers certainly didn't get a a 'team friendly' deal and he was a much lesser talent.
  23. Wins are wins, but man did the White Sox give us a hard time the last 2 seasons. We went 8-6 and a few of the wins were tough ones.
