Errors are very reviewable after the fact. The scoring can be changed up to 24 hours after the game is over.

The first number is the only one that matters. Leading to runs is a product of randomness just like everything else that advances baserunners. -

All I'm really saying is, errors may be overrated, as has been discussed at length here, but the Red Sox leading in baseball in errors this year, and a close second last year, is still a bad thing.

Base running errors are also a matter of opinion. Most of those are obvious too.

Or maybe the bullpen pitching is bad and the fielding is bad too. I tend to think both can easily be true. I'm not into reductionism, personally.

Some day we'll have robot scorers too. The fact is, a very high pct. of errors are not disputed by anyone.

Advanced defensive metrics are measured against the average too. Should we toss them too?

The 2024-2025 Red Sox aren't leading the planet in errors because of their superior range, that's for sure.

This is a dumb argument. Making errors on basic plays is still bad, always has been and always will be. Range is a totally separate thing. And getting charged with an error on a really tough play is a mistake by the scorer. This is all Captain Obvious material.

Sure, but if there are fewer errors charged now, it just means making errors is even worse now.

To say that errors are just opinion is oversimplifying IMO. Most of them are obvious, and the bad calls should even out. And they do review the calls and change some of them.

But the Red Sox having the most errors and worst fielding pct. in MLB is probably not a good thing. Range metrics are obviously very important, but the impact of muffing simple plays (for a major leaguer) shouldn't be dismissed either, IMHO .

You do have to wonder if the Driveline hitting philosophy even acknowledges there's such a thing as "situational hitting" or if they think every at-bat should be treated the same.

Not that it matters at this point, but if Sale hadn't been traded and if he pitched as well for the Sox as he did for the Braves, he'd be with us this year because of the vesting option in his contract.

I don't think he's very safe, honestly. The FO has to be pretty unhappy with a 22-24 mark especially with Crochet and Bregman both living up to their contracts. They're being patient outwardly but I don't think for much longer. As a bench guy Story will still get to play some because of his D and his ability to hit lefties.

The Masa thing is total weirdness. If the Sox keep up this crappy play a little longer I think they bring up Mayer and Story goes to the bench. They have to do something, even if it's just to appease us fans.

It's an amazingly awkward roster situation, with the contracts certainly playing into it.
