  1. The Rays are 18-1 vs. Baltimore with a +79 run differential. Houston definitely has the tougher schedule, and their run differential is about the same as the Rays.
  2. So someone might cough up a fair chunk for Syndergaard. But there would have to be a 'are you healthy' discount applied. So Syndergaard might be more inclined to take a 1-2 year deal and hope to increase his value.
  3. That in itself isn't a clincher, but when you add the records vs. the AL Central being almost equal, you're on pretty solid ground.
  4. I wonder what is the biggest contract ever given to a pitcher who hasn't pitched in 2 whole seasons.
  5. That's fair enough. The AL East and AL East are about equal in strength this year.
  6. I'm getting them today, on my office computer.
  7. Right. Trades generally fall into certain specific and logical categories. -Trading from an area of surplus for an area of need. -Trading talent with higher present value and higher salary, in return for talent with lower salary and higher future value.
  8. Makes perfect sense. But 'the right return' is often a matter of widely varying opinions, with a whole pile of risk involved. If Chaim Bloom is so good that he can win every trade, in theory he should trade everyone this offseason. And then trade the guys he traded for. You see where I'm going with this.
  9. And there is some merit in that argument. But you would need to parse a lot of numbers to show exactly how much merit.
  10. I should add, the AL East has the top net run differential of the 3 AL divisions. Not surprisingly, the NL West the best in MLB.
  11. You say 2:1 platoon ratio like there are other platoon ratios.
  12. Our cold hearted Talksox GM's would trade anybody plus their own dog. I'm kidding, but these statements of 'trade anybody' always make me chuckle. Chaim Bloom would probably say the same thing. But he would also say that when you trade a player like Devers, or Mookie Betts, you might win it, but there's also an excellent chance you're going to lose it.
  13. There's a pile of randomness involved. Here's something that might be more pertinent: The AL East has 4 teams with positive run differential. The AL West has 2 teams with positive run differential.
  14. Missed calls by the ump are deserved?
  15. Gameday says that was ball four and not close. Robot umps now.
  16. Absolutely correct. But if we're going to talk about Xander's market value, we have to refer to something, no? It could be that we'll see some reductions in spending by teams, but I've been expecting that for a long time and it hasn't happened yet. The deals given to Tatis and Lindor suggest that teams aren't freaking out about the future just yet...
  17. Lots to unpack here! -The stat nerd sites like FanGraphs and BTV all indicate that Xander is underpaid at $20 million. -Who out there would give him big bucks? Well, the Angels gave Rendon 7 years at $35 million a year. -My guess is that the vast majority of Red Sox fans would prefer not to trade him. -The charge here to trade him is being led by moon. moon is a huge proponent of defense, especially SS defense, and is also concerned about Xander opting out after next year.
  18. Feltman's Worcester numbers are solid. 20 IP 14 H 4 BB 21 K
  19. Shaw - what a pro he has been.
  20. I have to agree. If you'll trade Mookie Betts, you'll trade anyone.
  21. I didn't realize until looking it up how bad his splits are this year. 935-526. Yikes.
  22. Again you dodge the question. You're a coward and a troll.
