  1. Everybody loves the hot hand.
  2. Eovaldi is pitching up to his potential this year. It was a very defensible signing by Dombrowski. $68 mill was a lot for a guy with Eovaldi's injury history, but he's got elite stuff and is a great competitor.
  3. If CERA was as big a deal to the Red Sox as it is to you, they never would have let Leon go. Me and MVP just think you make too much of it. The CERA comparisons with Vaz and Plawecki are all over the place. They scream randomness. There's nothing that shows Vaz isn't doing a good job 'handling the staff'.
  4. Yeah, I was looking at that. If the Orioles use an 'every fifth game' schedule we'll miss him. If they use an 'every fifth day' schedule we'll see him. I suspect they'll use the former because Means is such a valuable property, was on the IL, and they have no real incentive to win games. But we'll see.
  5. It's not you he's razzing.
  6. I don't think it's a straw man to say your adverse opinion of him and desire to replace him has a lot to do with CERA comparisons.
  7. I think he strained a pec muscle last outing.
  8. We just did pretty good against the Orioles' no-names.
  9. How much does the catcher have to do with that bloated BABip we keep hearing about?
  10. Shocking that Vaz is even still with us! Somebody in the org isn't reading the data right, I guess...
  11. We've been through this before, but for whatever reason, Vazquez has much better numbers with the bullpen, and as a result his overall CERA is lower than Plawecki's. Vazquez's overall CERA is 4.18. And as we have established, our pitching ERA is inflated by bad defense.
  12. Not sure what's so bad about our 4 rings that the Rays don't have.
  13. Could still pick some guys off though LOL
  14. Could be, but it's a rather small sample.
  15. Do you not enjoy being able to talk smack a little better to Yankee fans now?
  16. We've been like the San Antonio Spurs of MLB.
  17. Yes, is upgrading every starter and backup too much to ask?
  18. Or at least they thought so before 2004.
  19. I'm much different there. For me the 4 rings feel like a personal achievement, or at least a vindication of my fandom, after what I went through from 1969 to 2003.
  20. Please, no more CERA, it's maddening. Vazquez plays more than Plawecki, it seems pretty obvious Bloom and Cora value him more.
  21. Kudos to the Rays for their system, which has done an amazing job turning low payrolls into wins. But let's also not forget it's the Red Sox who have the 4 rings since 2004. Or that Bloom is a Friedman protégé.
  22. And Rivera's postseason record, despite the famous blown saves, is mind-boggling.
  23. I just realized that Rivera is the flip side of Rick Porcello, in that his fWAR is about 50% lower than his bWAR. Rivera's fWAR is more than double Nen's, so the volume is a big factor. I do tend to agree that being on those Yankee teams made Rivera seem even better than he was. As for the unanimous vote thing, I've always thought the attention paid to that, in general, is stupid.
  24. Agreed. They were 33-27 in 2020. Their big offseason moves were Kluber and Taillon replacing Tanaka and Happ. They have not had any significant influx of young talent this year. There's nothing that says there's a great team hidden in there. But a suitable new GM and manager could certainly put them on the right track.
  25. E-Rod has pitched well against the Yankees this year, and in his career.
