    I wouldn't say Old Red is seriously bad mouthing him by calling him inconsistent. Maybe just undervaluing his performance as a starter.

    Not really sure what the highlighted sentence means. They took him out of the regular rotation at the end of the season, when we had some off days to play with, to be a flex guy who can relieve or start if necessary. He started Game 161 and pitched 5 perfect innings. He might start a game in the ALCS, who knows.

    I didn't think that's what you meant, I just needed some clarification. You're right of course about the money being a big difference-maker in avoiding jail time. The only that's changed a bit is that if a famous athlete or other famous person is accused of something criminal or even non-criminal but offensive now, online media and social media will be all over it, and your career might instantly be over. As with Deshaun Watson, Trevor Bauer, Jon Gruden et al.

    If you're claiming that NFL players murder people all the time and don't go to jail for it, you have to name some names. I can think of Ray Lewis as a possible candidate, but who else in recent times?

    In theory, a new tax system with a lower threshold that is less punitive and less of a deterrent to spending, but rakes in more tax money, would be better for just about everyone.

    Houck has been very inconsistent this year at best? Seriously? I don't know if his future is as a starter or as a bullpen weapon, but he's been a heck of a lot better than that.

    Whitlock is our best reliever, obviously, but you can't expect him to pitch the 8th and 9th innings every game we have a lead. Other guys need to do the job too.

    Agreed. The guy I first replied to here was saying Whitlock should have pitched the 8th and 9th both games, as if it's no big deal. Even though he never did it all year, and hardly any pitchers ever do it.

    No, he wasn't, but it's also extremely unusual to get through 2 innings throwing only 15 pitches. Great pitching by Whitlock and maybe a lack of patience by Rays hitters.

    The contract extension with Bogaerts was a fine piece of work by Dombrowski. As a fan, I don't like the opt out, but it was all part of the deal.

    You're right, if it was a regular season game he wouldn't have been pulled so early.

    E-Rod had a 2.11 ERA over his last 4 starts of the seasons. He's capable. Maybe his issue is that he gets really down on himself when he finds his stuff isn't there early, which causes his bad games to turn into horrible ones. (Pure speculation.)
