  1. I don't think it's necessarily an oxymoron. You can have an intense interior and a calm exterior.
  2. A rather arbitrary distinction LOL
  3. I guarantee if you start a poll "Want JBJ back next year?" the no votes will be much higher than the yes votes. You're picking on one or two posters who brought him up as a way to make the defense better next year.
  4. Masterson's 2010, 2012 and 2014 seasons were all very bad by Old School metrics.
  5. The Moving Finger Writes, and Having Writ Moves On. Not All Your Piety or Wit Can Lure it Back To Cancel Half a Line Nor All Your Tears Wash Out a Word of It. -Omar Khayyam
  6. I'm guessing only in his good years.
  7. I'm still not sure exactly what command is.
  8. I know we pinch-hit for Plawecki. I said that to Max right before you did. That's why I said win-win.
  9. Max is right about Vaz having much better numbers with the pen, though. So it was a win-win move by our razor-sharp manager.
  10. You missed one small detail, Max. Cora pinch-hit Shaw for Plawecki, and Shaw drew a walk which enabled Verdugo's 2-run single. Generally speaking, Cora is a fine in-game manager who usually knows what he's doing with each move.
  11. OK, but the 100 number is arbitrary as hell anyway.
  12. a) It's arbitrary that there are 3 divisions per league. 2018, the Yankees won 100. So it's going to be 2 in 4 years. Small sample, but half the time is often.
  13. And I disagree with your last sentence. The Dodgers are a much better team than the Braves. The Braves are only winning their division because of the randomness that goes with these arbitrary divisions. So it's perfectly fair to give the Dodgers the same chance as the Braves.
  14. They do have a doofus who might leave him in too long anyway though.
  15. Not just a better record. 17 freakin' games better LOL
  16. Like I say, the previous system with one Wild Card team was fairer. The "but now you gotta win the division!" argument is DOA. I don't like the Dodgers, but they're obviously having a vastly better season than Atlanta.
  17. No way it's "fair" that the team with 17 more wins gets the play-in game. That's just stupid luck. The new system does boost fan interest, I get that. But it's less fair than the previous system.
  18. But because the divisions are of much different quality, you get this: Atlanta 85 wins Dodgers 102 wins Dodgers, with 17 more wins (!!!), are the ones who have to play in the Wild Card game (unless they catch the Giants). Obviously not fair.
  19. He hasn't been as good since the sticky stuff ban. Still good, and occasionally dominating, but a lot more off games.
  20. No, it's about making outs on balls in play vs. by strikeout. And it's by no means a new debate.
  21. A sac fly by definition leads to a run.
  22. I agree with your last 2 sentences. There are other productive outs though. You're not a fan of the sacrifice bunt, I take it.
  23. In general outs are bad, but productive outs are a real thing, the most obvious example being a sacrifice fly.
  24. I took particular care not to call it a playoff game though.
  25. Game thread posts are the worst, of course.
