  1. Dead money inherited by DD-not including Castillo who was not subject to luxury tax: Pablo Hanley Pedroia Dead money inherited by Bloom: Price (half-dead, at least) Pedroia
  2. I don't think we're a hive mind here. Some people do unfairly leave those things out, I agree. Personally, I think of 2013 as Ben's real first season. As for Bloom, I'm definitely a fan of what he's done.
  3. If you believe that a pitcher's W-L record matters, E-Rod has to be your guy. He's 64-39. That's a .621 winning pct., which equates to a 101-61 season record.
  4. Oasis reference?
  5. LOL "In the year 2525, in man is still alive, if woman can survive..." (Zager and Evans song)
  6. To be completely fair about this, you have to take into consideration how much of that 2019 payroll DD had nothing to do with taking on. Porcello 20.6 Betts 20 Pablo 19 Pedroia 14 Xander 12 JBJ 8.5 That's 94 mill. And doesn't include the 12 for Castillo which wasn't included in tax calcs, but did come out of JH's pocket. The amounts for Betts and Bogaerts reflect their huge arb raises. Which they deserved, obviously, but it's one of the vagaries of the system that guys get huge raises without the GM having a thing to say about it.
  7. I agree. But when it comes to the payroll, it's simply false that "Ben couldn't spend" while "DD had a blank cheque".
  8. Scorched earth somehow nearly made it to the World Series the second season after DD left. Logical Larry.
  9. Yes, two other major expenditures by Ben: Pedroia extension - $90 million added to existing deal Moncada signing - $63 million
  10. Ben spent over $330 million in one off-season. As I say, I'm not sure which of the two spent more on new contracts/extensions without checking. I think it's pretty close.
  11. That is correct. So in effect his AAV is the same as JD's.
  12. Did he actually spend more than Ben? Have to do the numbers on that one.
  13. There is one other factor with keeping Xander, which is that there's a chance 2022 doesn't go as well as expected for him for one reason or another, and the opt-out becomes less certain.
  14. Personally, I would: -Keep Xander for 2022 and take the draft pick. -Sign Devers for 8 years @ whatever it takes.
  15. Ha ha here we go again. Dombrowski was by no means fully responsible for that quarter of a billion. And a lot of the dead money came from Ben.
  16. Personally I don't think either Bogey or Devers should make $30 million. That's what Mookie makes.
  17. The Recency Effect suggests Stanton is a lot less injury-prone and more productive than Hicks.
  18. It's pretty much a lateral move. Would you rather have that 1 WAR player or the draft pick?
  19. Richards' total cost was $10 mill - $8.5 mill salary plus 1.5 mill buyout of option. You do need to be an accountant to figure out some of this stuff.
  20. We were already on the hook for 16 mill to Price, so it would have been an additional 15 mill.
  21. And you do more homework on this stuff than I do.
  22. I can see that. But who plays shortstop for us in 2022?
  23. You get $30M of talent that may or may not perform up to it.
  24. Right, so you gain $25-30M but you lose Mookie Betts. Whether that's a good thing depends on how Mookie holds up.
