  1. Over 2019-2021 Pina had 432 PA's. Vazquez had 498 in 2021 alone. I get why you guys like Pina, but he'd have to be a BUC.
  2. Is it possible that Houck, who has shown himself quite capable of 3-5 inning mow-downs, could be wasted as a 'conventional closer'?
  3. We all have our own hot takes.
  4. And he has also shown himself to operate at an unhurried pace even without the CBA concerns...
  5. How many innings is Pina capable of playing, though?
  6. Kyle and Corey are Seagers Pete is a Seeger Bob is a Seger
  7. If the Yankees do sign C. Seager for the expected $30 mill AAV, they'll have $88 mill AAV in 3 players, Cole, Seager and Stanton, for a while to come.
  8. I don't know, the fact that E Rod signed so quick might just mean the Tigers' offer was too good to resist. $77 mill and an opt-out after 2 years was a pretty sweet offer. Especially with all the so-called uncertainty with the new CBA etc. Maybe E-Rod's agent said 'I suggest you jump all over this, my friend!', and E-Rod had to agree.
  9. All I can say is about E-Rod's deal is that it seems to be a good sign for the financial health of the game.
  10. My concern about putting both these guys in the Opening Day rotation is that it's a little risky to do it with two guys at once.
  11. MLBTR projected $27/3.
  12. No. In 2019 they returned virtually the same team that won 108 and the WS. The only loss was Kimbrel. If you call that a semi-cliff year I really have no idea what your definition of a cliff is.
  13. I think you've got it. It was a "clip" or a "bliff".
  14. I love that avatar BTW.
  15. I'm torn between two equally wishy-washy answers: 1) Apparently so. 2) We'll find out over the next 5 years.
  16. To me the bad periods are measured by how many years in a row you miss the playoffs. Since 2003 here are the years we've missed: 2010-2012 3 2014-2015 2 2019-2020 2
  17. To be fair, Pearce did have an .890 OPS in the 2018 regular season, including .959 against lefties.
  18. a) 2020 was a 60 game season in a pandemic, and the perfect time to tank. I've said a number of times I think Henry nailed it replacing DD with Bloom when he did.
  19. And they were right?
  20. oldtimer, our whole team failed to hit the last 3 games against Houston.
  21. That would probably work for me. But Scherzer/Semien = about 60 million AAV.
  22. All you can really do is compare to other teams. In the twenty-first century, which team do you think has done the best? Red Sox Yankees Dodgers Giants I'll take the Red Sox record over the others. 4 rings, 7 ALCS appearances, other playoff appearances. And yes, 4 last-place finishes. The Yankees and Dodgers have been much more consistent, but I'll take the rings.
  23. It should probably also be noted that Hanley's contract carried that nasty vesting option which, if triggered, would have cost the team another $22 mill. DD and the team had to release him -- under false pretenses, some said.
  24. In that same game, BTW, the Jays bullpen was credited with a win, 3 holds and a save. Starter Ryu, who pitched 3.2 scoreless, got nothing of course.
  25. Team wins-of indisputable importance Pitcher wins-of questionable importance My favorite win of the year goes to Tim Mayza of the Blue Jays, April 25, in a 1-0 win against the Rays. Mayza pitched 1/3 of an inning, the 4th no less, before giving up 2 hits to start the 5th and being yanked. But because the Jays scored in the 5th when he was the 'pitcher of record', Mayza got the win.
