  1. So you're suggesting that Steamer and ZIPS pull their PA projections out of thin air.
  2. How do you determine that it was bigger than the one in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS?
  3. It's all guesswork.
  4. Yes. The point is that WAPM also has to project the PAs.
  5. Timing and context are everything. People remember the names of Bobby Thompson, Bill Mazeroski, and Bucky Dent...and Dent's hit wasn't even a walkoff.
  6. Ortiz had 3 walkoff hits in one postseason. He led the greatest comeback in baseball history and the breaking of the c****. That gets you noticed. Can't speak for others, but I remember Luis Gonzalez's hit pretty well. Regular season walkoffs do not make that big of an impression. They're an everyday occurrence during the season.
  7. Agreed. Nonetheless it sucked that teams played 154-156 games that year instead of 162. Will they do it to us again?
  8. Clutchness was part of his personality!
  9. Yaz helped put a moribund franchise back on its feet though. Which arguably paved the way to the glory years of Ortiz. Comparisons like this are fun, but I don't think they're very meaningful.
  10. The thing that's endearing about Yaz is that he seems a 100% straight shooter.
  11. If you're so good, what is Dalbec's 2022 fWAR?
  12. Nonetheless, offensive is not warranted, in my opinion. He was merely stating that you treat ZIPS as an authoritative source.
  13. moon's usage is perfectly consistent with some of the examples given here. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/gospel
  14. What? When did "gospel" the way moon used it become offensive? It's a common usage per any dictionary.
  15. And another pretty good player in Lynn.
  16. Although the A's won in 1972 without Reggie. Plus we were ahead 3-0 in Game 7 in 1975.
  17. Yeah, I'd have to say the 2004 team is the most special of the special. Not only breaking the drought, but beating the Yankees in miraculous fashion. And just an amazing group of players.
  18. And his nickname might been "Sir"...
  19. Indeed. Good times ahead!
  20. Plus his heroics in the 1978 playoff game (sigh).
  21. Amazing how many of those names are blotted out of my memory.
  22. Not yet we can't.
  23. If Dalbec had done something with those 12 PA's, you might have a point...
