  1. That horse is dead.
  2. Pure speculation based on nothing. We already know that Mookie came close to accepting a previous offer for a lower amount, so there's nothing to suggest the Sox weren't bargaining in good faith.
  3. That's just speculation. If it's true that he countered with $420M, maybe that was the real problem.
  4. ??? We did offer Betts $300M.
  5. Sale makes over $20. Devers would make it two. A team as rich as the Red Sox can afford 2 or 3 guys at $20 mill or more, I'd say. And that's it.
  6. Yeah, when the highest paid pitcher in the game and certified sticky stuff user says that, it really makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
  7. Unless one of the quarters is a collector's item.
  8. The fact is that they won't keep both Bogey and Devers.
  9. That's negative commentary on both the player and the park!
  10. Beni really fattened his WAR at the end of the year. Arguably in 'garbage time'. His OPS was .689 on Sept. 3, 1.048 the rest of the way.
  11. Baseball America's ranking is obviously the correct one. Keith Law can take a hike.
  12. That's an odd example, since it has nothing to do with building the farm.
  13. And that certainly does happen with some teams.
  14. It'd be a lot of work, but I have no doubt there would be a significant correlation. Can you think of any way it would HURT to have a strong farm?
  15. What jumps out at me is that for there to be collusion there has to be an attempt to deceive and defraud. Such as a secret agreement not to make market value offers to free agents. But the way MLB is structured, the owners have to have a joint bargaining position.
  16. I make errors like that one quite a bit.
  17. The only surprise for me is Valentin. Didn't realize he charted that high.
  18. Yes, Millar's cheerful bravado before Game 4 is an amazing thing to behold. And he was instrumental in the comeback. I'd certainly buy him a drink if I ever see him in a bar.
  19. Yaz had a 1.047 OPS in 17 postseason games. Which doesn't include his home run and RBI single in the 1978 playoff game. He was clutch. He just didn't have as many opportunities.
  20. Ortiz was a better hitter, Yaz was a better all-round player.
  21. I don't think it's too early at all. Last year Red Sox Truck Day was February 8.
