    It occurs to me that they might not be able to trade Bogey, because he actually still has 3 more years on his contract after this, if he doesn't exercise the opt-out. The only reason he wouldn't exercise it is injury. But that would put the team who acquires him in a risky position.

    Of course he would. But: a) I think there's a very good chance they sign him to an extension, with all the money that's coming off the books. The current ownership has always shown some sense of trying to please the fans. They know a fire sale will piss off a lot of people. Including Devers in it would be torch and pitchfork stuff. If they're going to do that they might as well sell the team. And I don't think that's the plan.

    The salary relief was mammoth. Couldn't have expected much from the talent dregs they threw in to call it a "trade".

    A bit of a sweeping generalization. Adults can get attached to players too. We have adults here who are still pissed about Betts, and are probably going to be much more pissed soon.

    They're not trading Devers. I know that much.

    Our starting pitching has been pretty good. Our offense has been very sporadic. Our bullpen generally stinks. Sounds like a .500 team to me.

    We have a Piggybacker in Houck and a Pigpen in Barnes, Brasier, Diekman et al. It's kind of the Year of the Pig for the Sox.

    Your only mistake was bringing women into it. We have one female poster, and she spends maybe 10-15 minutes a week here.

    But then you say you wouldn't want Mookie's contract, he didn't want to be here, and he wasn't that good last year. Sometimes you sound like you're on both sides of the argument.

    If we really sucked last year maybe they would have signed some expensive free agents that didn't work out. You can come up with all kinds of alternate realities.
