  1. The Harley and the Triumph will hold their value a long time. Ballplayers aren't quite as reliable.
  2. Blowing an 8-2 lead in the first game was just ridiculous. That was a "statement game" of the worst kind.
  3. We're obviously just not that good. The fire sale is still on.
  4. The logic behind it isn't really that complicated. When the productive employees are baseball players, in order to keep them, you have to sign them to exorbitant guaranteed contracts that are based on past performance. You run the risk that they will soon become non-productive assets due to aging, injury or underperformance. And you'll still have to pay them. So you trade them for prospects and try to rebuild that way. None of which means I like the idea of losing guys like Bogey, JD, Eovaldi or least of all Devers.
  5. Is it just me, or are there are a lot of players with the first name of Tyler now?
  6. Batters faced by Hill in each start: 19 21 18 13 17 25 13 (gave up 4 runs and 7 baserunners in 2 innings) 18 So there's exactly one glaring example of him getting hooked before going through the order twice.
  7. But what about the third time through the order principle?
  8. Houck pitched 2 innings yesterday. Only 14 pitches, but it likely precludes the piggyback.
  9. At this point I don't think anyone outside of Red Sox management knows why they're not trying Houck as closer.
  10. Cordero and Vazquez have been a big help recently.
  11. If he is demanding a Betts contract, we're screwed.
  12. I've never complained about the Kimbrel trade. I do understand why people might think it was an overpay, giving up 4 prospects. (Please don't anyone call it a double whammy! It wasn't.) The one guy who might have made the trade look bad was Logan Allen, but he doesn't seem to be amounting to much.
  13. Yes. This is about the "down the road" impact of DD's prospect trades.
  14. Which journeyman starters are we talking about - Hill? Wacha?
  15. What is the basis of your wondering about their numbers being different?
  16. Just to be clear, an average player is about 2 fWAR over 162 games. As for price, Margot is making 5.6 mill this year and will make 19 mill for 2023-2024. Team option for 2025.
  17. Sure, but he didn't top 2 fWAR in a season until last year. He's been roughly an average player.
  18. Celtics-Warriors. I really have to make an effort to watch some of these games.
  19. Tito did flip them between 3 and 4.
  20. The Jays and Angels are in a hell of a slugfest. Jays just went up 11-10 in the 8th. These might be the two teams we duke it out with for the last Wild Card spot.
  21. Margot is actually starting to look like the "surprise" guy. His offensive game has really picked up this year.
  22. That must have been Devers. It's been widely reported that the offer to Bogey was only one year added to the three left on his existing contract, for $30 million.
  23. Similarly, last night he brings Luetge into a 1-1 game when he could have opted for King. Counter-intuitive moves.
  24. Comforting to know that Boone hasn't lost his touch for odd moves. Day off tomorrow and the first guy out of the pen is Marinaccio?
