    The Sox also signed Carl Crawford to that big contract. Doesn't change the fact they were thrilled to unload it.

    Yes, they gave up on keeping Betts in the off-season between 2018 and 2019 after making their final offer to him. They then signed the extensions with Sale and Bogaerts. So when they looked to be out of it in 2019 it made sense to entertain trade offers. But they went on a little hot streak and decided against it.

    Yeah, I originally thought Devers was to blame, but subsequent events and things I've read have really lowered my opinion of Breslow as a manager.

    The Devers thing was a mess but it doesn't bother me that much. The Betts trade, on the other hand, still looks like a cataclysmic mistake.

    No, but you can question whether counting on Story and Yoshida for anything was a mistake. Story has obviously had enormous problems staying on the field and has only had sporadic good stretches when he does. Yoshida is just a replacement level player. Duran seems like a guy who needs help he isn't getting - but admittedly that's just my speculation.

    From what I've been gathering, the hitting approach being taught by the Sox goes like this: swing as hard as you can, pull the ball and hit it in the air. And yet the results being achieved are the opposite: we are dead last in baseball in home runs.

    To me the most damning fact for Breslow right now is that he ostensibly fired most of the coaching staff because he didn't think players were performing up to their potential, but the needle has barely moved, so he was wrong, and maybe he is just a lousy manager and evaluator of talent - especially with the offense of course. It sure doesn't help the optics that Durbin only started to hit after going for outside help.

    You could accuse Breslow of just sitting on his hands hoping the offense would get better. He fired Cora and the hitting coaches and seemed to blame them for the underperformance. But nothing has improved much. A few glimmers like Durbin, but we're still virtually dead last in runs scored. And that's the main reason for our record.

    Brez is making great moves but we stink. It's a conundrum.

    Not being snarky, but so what. Cohen has the money, and Soto is still pretty good.

    Not sure how we're defining going out with a bang, but DD got fired for reasons never explained to him. He didn't say much about it but he did say Henry never get in touch with him about it at all and that was the one thing that bothered him.

    Seems like we're pretty much in the exact same boat other than that Red Sox owners should still see a profit!

    Despite a little run against the Yanks we're still just about dead last in scoring runs.

    Anthony does not meet the criteria for a flop. But the injuries are deeply concerning to say the least, especially since they both seem to be connected with swinging the bat.

    Zimmer reportedly pulled a bunch of clippings out of his desk with Lee calling him a gerbil. Yaz was dumbfounded.

    I have no idea. But one would think he's not unaware of the criticisms about his management style. And power can be a short-lived thing when you work for Henry LOL.

    I have had plenty of back and forth with Fred over the years. It's not really the negativity that finally did me in so much as the redundancy. He says the same things over and over and over. How many times has he already said the Sox should be trying to lose now instead of win? I'm guessing it's a bundle. And it will be a bundle more.

    It's a little strange because this is a guy who actually played the game for a pretty long stretch. I can only hope he learns from his mistakes.

    Fun with small samples: Seigler has a 0.6 bWAR in 12 games. Extrapolates to 7.5 for 150 games. 😁
