    Philly at least has been making the playoffs and did make it to the Series once.

    Especially now with the freaking Dodgers as loaded as they are, and set up to keep rolling like this a few more years. Which is part of the reason the upcoming labor talks promise to be ugly. We have teams that are over the salary cap the owners are looking for by vast amounts.

    Just saying it may be a deterrent to buying this winter. Shouldn't impact deadline decisions.

    It's a team that now has a reasonable chance to make the playoffs. Like about 20 other teams. Playing a lot better, though.

    We have no idea what the idea is this winter. There may not even be a 2027 season.

    Which also seems like a good reason for us to keep him.

    I'm not saying we're better, but you could make a case that we have a better shot of going deep in the playoffs than they do because we would be facing weaker opponents. Plus I think we are getting better. But I'm a little biased, admittedly.

    As of now we're closer to a playoff spot than Pittsburgh is.

    He's had some pretty awful stretches, though. He was at .585 at the end of May in 2025.

    Duran has an OPS of 1.371 in his last 3 games. 😃

    Maybe being low in the order will help Duran relax a little.

    I think Sox fans are mostly bitter about the fact that since 2020 the team has had 2 rookie CBOs, has trimmed spending relative to revenue, and if they don't make the playoffs this year they will have only done it only 2 out 7 years under these guys. The average fan doesn't get into the scrutiny of the individual moves, the pluses and minuses, the way we do. They look at the results, and the results are pretty damn disappointing. It's a nutty game, though. This team still has a shot at some redemption for themselves and Breslow. Fingers crossed.

    My outer limits of weird would be more like Repo Man and Mulholland Drive.

    Trading a young, cost-controlled potential ace who has already had MLB success is not something a big market franchise ever does.

    And trading him was never on my bingo card until it happened. I just find it easier to rationalize than trading Betts, I guess. Anyway good for Raffy for starting to rake again.

    Sonny Gray is a guy that Sox fans have had their eye on as an acquisition for many years. They finally get him and he's having a brilliant season, but many want to trade him. I understand the reasons, but it's still a whole heap of suck.

    He's back without a doubt. No regrets on my part, though. He's still a very expensive DH.

    As an accountant I feel duty-bound to point out that the Red Sox actually paid Price $156 million. Original deal of $217 million less $31 million for 2020, which Price opted out of, and $30 million for 2021-2022 that was paid by the Dodgers.

    I thought it was reported that there was a bidding war but we didn't get much info about it. Maybe that was just Boras saying it.
