  1. Rose also took his walks and hit a lot of doubles.
  2. The 8 team system had less crapshoot factor because for one thing, all the series were 4 out of 7. Now you are guaranteed to have to get through a 3 out of 5. The Dodgers had the 3rd best record in the NL this year, but with the new setup they have to get through a 2 out of 3 followed by a 3 out of 5. Another thing that's probably adding to the crapshoot factor is all the pitching injuries. You've got teams making the playoffs that are down at least one of their best starters.
  3. The randomness and tiny margins between success and failure in baseball are like nothing else.
  4. I can't see how Bregman would have much status, as a newly acquired player with an opt-out at the end of the season.
  5. Incredible day at the ball yards yesterday: -Yankees eliminated! -All 3 of the other series extended. -Quinn Priester gives up 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning.
  6. They extended Anthony after trading Devers. It's a matter of opinion whether there was a direct connection between the two things.
  7. Personally I don't think a player should be publicly dressing down the CBO like that. It's embarrassing to the team. That didn't impress me at all. I thought it was totally immature, I think Raffy came off as immature in the whole deal.
  8. Manny was a tough one to judge, for sure. I'd say most were good with him until the 2008 shenanigans.
  9. Nobody said much of anything about Devers after he left. Actually once Casas got hurt we had kind of a quiet team. Nobody very quotable.
  10. In my opinion if you win multiple championships that kind of exempts you from being a bad teammate. If the objective is to win rings how can Mike Jordan be a bad teammate? Jordan's teammates made a lot more money because of him and they have rings. Maybe an unlikeable teammate, but that's a different thing.
  11. Of course, but Sasaki was the closer in Game 1, getting it done on 11 pitches, and Treinen didn't pitch in Game 1, and there was a day off in between games, so it seemed odd Treinen would be the closer in Game 2 unless there was a health issue with Sasaki, but Sasaki came in to close it anyway. Maybe it was some sort of matchup deal.
  12. Is Sasaki pitching hurt or something? I was puzzled by the sequencing last night.
  13. They did make the playoffs, which I think most of us figured was a reasonable goal for 2025. Also FWIW one of the rumors about DD being fired by Henry was that Dave was not communicating well with the rest of the front office.
  14. Personally I won't get fooled again.
  15. But he would only be non-compliant if he was asked to play 2B and refused.
  16. Cora was trying to keep Raffy half-happy, moving him to DH but not to 1B. Did Cora play it right and Breslow screw it up? Honestly I have no idea. But I think in the final analysis they did the right thing trading him. Having an unhappy player you owe close to $300 million is usually a problem.
  17. But they're 4 and 0. The pen looks shaky but may be surmountable when they have so much else going. I hope the Brewers are up to the task, I'd rather not see the Dodgers hoisting it again.
  18. Refsnyder ain't retiring. This is gonna be like the Who's 1982 "farewell concert". Pete and Roger are still playing live in 2025.
  19. I'd even settle for a #3 with #2 upside. 😊
  20. Recent Philly teams have been postseason Phlops. Maybe that word will attract some attention to this thread.
  21. Chapman and Whitlock were huge reasons the team won 89 games. Fantastic seasons for both. Exceeded everyone's expectations, really.
  22. Devers showed he wasn't a team player. It was for the best anyway.
  23. Yes, that can be a real disincentive.
  24. I certainly agree about the counting stat part, but Duran's durability the last 2 years has been a plus. He's been the one guy they were able to pencil in every day.
  25. It's skewed, but he still led Sox position players in 2025 fWAR at 3.9 (Rafaela 3.8) and was 2nd in bWAR at 4.6 to Rafaela's 4.8.
