    I think Sox fans are mostly bitter about the fact that since 2020 the team has had 2 rookie CBOs, has trimmed spending relative to revenue, and if they don't make the playoffs this year they will have only done it only 2 out 7 years under these guys. The average fan doesn't get into the scrutiny of the individual moves, the pluses and minuses, the way we do. They look at the results, and the results are pretty damn disappointing. It's a nutty game, though. This team still has a shot at some redemption for themselves and Breslow. Fingers crossed.

    Trading a young, cost-controlled potential ace who has already had MLB success is not something a big market franchise ever does.

    And trading him was never on my bingo card until it happened. I just find it easier to rationalize than trading Betts, I guess. Anyway good for Raffy for starting to rake again.

    Sonny Gray is a guy that Sox fans have had their eye on as an acquisition for many years. They finally get him and he's having a brilliant season, but many want to trade him. I understand the reasons, but it's still a whole heap of suck.

    He's back without a doubt. No regrets on my part, though. He's still a very expensive DH.

    As an accountant I feel duty-bound to point out that the Red Sox actually paid Price $156 million. Original deal of $217 million less $31 million for 2020, which Price opted out of, and $30 million for 2021-2022 that was paid by the Dodgers.

    I thought it was reported that there was a bidding war but we didn't get much info about it. Maybe that was just Boras saying it.

    That's true, but if we're going to be totally consistent don't we also have to replace Contreras's 2026 OPS with his 2025 OPS? Otherwise we're kind of playing mix and match. Using pre-season 2026 projections might be the fairest method of all.

    If there's only one good team in the league you have a decent chance of getting to the Series. I'm not an objective source, though, because I hate selling.

    It should be, but the AL might only have one good team.

    That was one of the wackiest signings in history at that number. Xander must have been astonished himself to get 280 million.

    Yep, and this team now gives a tantalizing sense that it's improving. Capn' Obvious adds: Gotta keep racking W's to prove it!

    I think Abreu is a little better than a league average bat. Career OPS of .784, OPS+ of 119, so about 19% better than average, plus the solid glove. Career bWAR of 10.9 in 360 games is more like a star level player.

    Durbin has been great lately. I do feel for Breslow to some degree. It's weird to take an 89 win team, make a number of good offseason moves and be 9 games under in July.

    Romy has developed into a pretty good hitter. Plenty of pop. Stay healthy my friend.

    Why on earth would you consider trading Abreu or Durbin or Early. These are exactly the guys you don't trade, good players who are under control and cheap for now.

    Devers has really been hot lately.

    Yeah, they just haven't shown us they can do it. They have a few weeks left to change that.
