    For some reason my confidence in Breslow and Tracy being able to deal with these things is pretty high right now. 🙂

    I would think Py W-L has to be some of both, because of the changes in personnel that happen throughout the season.

    The Moneyball concept is basically about hunting for undervalued players, right? You could probably say that about a few of Brez's moves, but I think that's about it. Suarez looks like a great signing, but that was a simple case of paying a guy what he was looking for. It's harder to find undervalued players now because every team has wall to wall data crunchers...human and non-human.

    Abreu leads the majors in homers since the ASB. He be hot. bWAR is up to 4.6.

    Man, Abreu has some SERIOUS power. He has been hitting some Schwarber-like bombs, the 420 foot+ kind. Hats off to Bloom for that trade.

    You're right, but at 32-46 they were on pace for a 66-96 record, which would have been the worst record since 1965. Plus they would have been fire-selling guys like Gray and Chapman and maybe Contreras.

    You can never get giddy with this game - although I'm sure Dave O'Brien would disagree. I'm just watching and enjoying.

    Seriously. Early on there were people saying it was the worst Sox team they'd ever seen. One of the biggest a turnarounds I've seen a team have.

    I think the longest hot streak I've seen a team have was the 1984 Tigers, who started the season 35-5. They went 69-53 the rest of the way for 104 wins, then blew out the Royals and Padres to win the ring.

    He is a solid all-around player though. His bWAR is up to 2.8, which puts him on pace for 4.0 or so, which believe it or not is worth about 35 million based on the average cost per win of free agent players. But given his age and the length of the deal, it could definitely go underwater.

    I still wouldn't totally write him off. Mookie is actually a pretty streaky hitter.
