  1. Bregman's deal includes $70 million deferred.
  2. It kind of feels like the approach now is to be patient forever...
  3. We're all just making our best guesses. I thought the Devers trade was justified by his behavior. But they have done nothing to replace his bat.
  4. It does look like an overpay, but the market for premium free agents is so limited. We can't just turn our attention to the next Bregman because there is none. There's Bichette but he'll be even more expensive.
  5. Yes, why not? Pleasing the fans is what makes the money roll in.
  6. Captain Obvious here: "It's all about whether he can stay on the field."
  7. He's at that point where a rebound would be a pleasant surprise. But certainly not impossible.
  8. It's a relatively small investment in two guys who have had success at the MLB level.
  9. I think Joe B and me are both looking at the same thing - his WAR per games played is consistently good. You're not wrong that are concerning signs as well. But I'm still hoping for the announcement that we've signed him.
  10. Yeah, I doubt there have been too many active players as consistent as Bregman has been.
  11. Seems like we've had 4 disappointing/confusing trade deadlines in a row.
  12. I wouldn't say I'm upset, but I do think it was a terrible signing for that money. It was a lot of money for a DH with only moderate power.
  13. We've got about 2 dozen people who post regularly here. But I agree, there's not much point in this discussion.
  14. Forbes's annual Business of Baseball rankings started with the 1998 season, so we've had that data at our fingertips for over 25 years now. I assume that we're not confining to our comments to just what's said on the Talksox forum.
  15. I have to disagree that "the revenue thing is a relatively new angle".
  16. We don't expect owners to dip into their own pockets to fund their teams, that's why we normally look at the revenue the team is generating rather than the wealth of the owners.
  17. Pretty close to the infamous porn star mustache. But it's hard to predict much off looks. Isaiah Campbell has a pretty cool mustache and glasses thing going, but his numbers suck.
  18. Red, I laughed when I saw your Eddie Driscoll reference the other day. Here in Halifax, when we first got cable TV in the 70's, we got the NBC station in Bangor, so we saw plenty of Eddie, and Dick Stacey too. 😀
  19. Yes, my comment was purely tangential to your discussion with moon, for my own personal entertainment to be honest, as are many of my posts.
  20. We've had a bunch of snoozers in recent years.
  21. I just think free agency season should have a limited time window.
  22. I still love that movie. One of my all-time favorites.
  23. To me there's no excitement unless I'm actually betting real money on it. And I freely admit that betting on sports for money is a losing proposition. I throw away about fifty bucks a year betting on NFL point spreads with my government betting service.
  24. They really need to put some sort of time window on MLB free agency. After a while these drawn-out dramas become very tiresome.
