  1. The Astros seem like they're on a mission of world domination...
  2. But if the Sox miss the playoffs this year, it's not going to be a big surprise if Henry simply blames Bloom and fires him...
  3. I guess an "unnamed source" said they were...
  4. Now you tell us!
  5. Bogey's opt-out was an automatic. He would have been insane not to. Of course the Sox could have prevented it by signing him to a new deal some time in the last two years.
  6. Interestingly, Harper and Stanton got almost identical contracts. 13 years @ $25 mill. moon's kind of contract...keep that AAV down!
  7. I suspected there might be an exception.
  8. The 300 players have all been guys good on both O and D.
  9. Yep. Rutschman's first game was May 21. Prior to that the O's were 16-24. They went 67-55 the rest of the way. Despite the late start to his rookie year, Rutschman posted a fat 5.3 fWAR and 5.2 bWAR.
  10. In (sort of) Yankee news, it looks like Donnie Baseball will be the next bench coach of the Jays.
  11. As 5 Gloves said, if you go to the comments section on the Boston Globe you see some people defending Bloom and Henry. The real question is why you make such a big deal of how many Bloom defenders there are here. There's a handful. So what?
  12. It's a 3 year contract. As far as power, it was down all over baseball this year. Abreu's 2022 OPS+ of 133 was bang on his career average. He takes walks and doesn't strike out much. He's very durable. He's a pro through and through. I think it's a very good signing for the Stros. They are showing how it's done.
  13. Heh. Large and short AKA the Obese Dwarf of contracts, a relatively new species.
  14. You have a fair point about priorities. At the same time signing Contreras, and having the catcher position looked after for a few years, would not be the worst thing.
  15. I don't see why it would be a bad signing at the projected 4/84.
  16. His health is a question mark I'm pretty sure no one has the answer on yet. If he's healthy the $4 mill could be a great bargain. If he's not he's useless. Pretty sure that Bloom wants to give scenario #1 every chance.
  17. Yes, it's a combination of s***** things.
  18. You might be the only person who would even think of that as a possibility.
  19. They've already gone public that Whitlock is in the 2023 rotation. I think you can pencil that in.
  20. It's the last place finish this year that really has the knives out for Bloom.
  21. And then there's the bullpen.
  22. Duquette's Red Sox and Theo's Red Sox never finished last. One of the things driving Sox fans batty right now is the 5 last place finishes since 2012. Bloom is somewhat the victim of much higher expectations that Sox fans have now too, no question about that.
  23. Probably not. The real question is whether there is any FA we want to sign at the money they're going to get.
  24. The Sox don't have any luxuries at all. They're a 78 win team that has gotten significantly worse since the season ended.
  25. Do you think we're going to get a bat like Abreu for cheap? Who might that be?
