    What the hell are they going to do about Devers now? Go through the same charade as they did with Bogaerts? Trade Devers for prospects and kick the can down the road a couple more years?

    I am so pissed at Henry/Werner right now. They have to go. Sell boys sell. I'll always be grateful for the titles, but they have become buffoons.

    Bloom is just the fall guy here. Henry is effectively trying to use him as a shield.

    And of course Henry fired the guy who signed Price to that contract. It's all starting to add up. I think maybe for the first time I wouldn't mind seeing someone buy the team from Henry. He had a good run, but now it's getting a little ugly.

    Just looked at the updated list of highest contracts in MLB history. You have to look all the way down to #22 to find Price. Which some might say is a little odd, considering that the Red Sox are #3 in market value.

    You may be 100% right about that. However, I think it's clear the real culprit in all this is Henry. He did it with Lester when Ben was GM. He did it with Betts when DD was GM. Now he's done it with Bogaerts when Bloom is GM. It turns out that Henry's game isn't Moneyball, it's Lowball.

    Oh I know they're making it, I'm just not sure how and if that means is perfectly sustainable at this rate.

    Yes, and it would be really cool to have a crystal ball that foretells the future.

    It's a fair question. But for once the Sox FO might be feeling desperate. They know losing the whole triumvirate of Betts, Bogaerts and Devers would go down in history alongside the Ruth sale.

    I keep thinking the bubble has to burst eventually, but it sure hasn't yet. How can revenues continue to grow at a level that supports such massive contracts? Are attendance and TV/internet viewership growing? It's pretty obvious a lot of the new money is coming from advertising and gambling partnerships. But even that has to plateau at some point.

    mvp and moon think they should have tanked 2022, basically.

    When history looks back on this, it'll be that lowball offer before this season that gets focused on, and rightly so. It was Lester Redux. Didn't learn a thing from past mistakes. That's what makes them look stupid.

    I don't think they knew before 2022 that the 2022 team was going to go 78-84. The argument about trading him at the deadline makes a lot more sense than the one about trading him before the season. That argument stinks.

    There was a report they were shopping him and the Rays were interested, but that was about a week ago.

    With Betts and Bogey, someone else is getting all of their 30's - early and late.

    We'll never know. The Red Sox front office keeps secrets better than the Mafia.

    Or did the Cubs jump the Red Sox bid by $20 million to secure the deal? We'll never know. This time around the difference was humongous.

    I bought the second attempt on Lester. Mainly because he bought it.

    We use hindsight all the time to bash management, it only seems fair to use it when it vindicates one of their moves...

    Andrus is looking better and better. His price is probably going up though!

    He was 46-24 in 4 years for us, yes, with a 3.84 ERA. He was also making 31 million a year. He opted out of 2020 and pitched very little in 2021 and 2022. He wouldn't have been much help if we kept him.
