  1. The problem, of course, is that the cost of keeping those players has skyrocketed over the years to the point that you have to take on a staggering amount of risk. As much as we lament losing Mookie, his contract has 10 more years to run, and it's still way too early to say if it's going to be a good contract or not.
  2. He said sales, not prices, but I'm wondering how he calculates the increase, number of tickets or gross revenue.
  3. So how do you explain the Devers contract? Didn't want to get booed again?
  4. Yes, that was a bit saucy, wasn't it? To be fair, Henry did say some very nice things about Red Sox fans in that e-mail interview with Jen McCaffrey.
  5. Now cut that out!
  6. True, but how that went down was still pretty strange. Contrast it to the negotiations with Devers. The whole gang went and visited him at his home in the Dominican, and made an offer they virtually knew would get it done.
  7. Bellissimo.
  8. And Bloom really likes moving pieces around the board...
  9. Yeah, they screwed up, I don't disagree.
  10. Some day we'll get the real story on those Mookie negotiations...
  11. Kind of the middle infield version of Eovaldi...
  12. There are some fairly nasty penalties, though, and the nastiest ones impact your draft picks and signing bonuses and IFA pool money.
  13. That's right. And at their 2018 season-ending press conference they told everyone they wouldn't be able to keep all of Betts, Bogey and Sale.
  14. I'm surprised too. One thing is abundantly clear - Bloom really likes Arroyo.
  15. Good points. We did hear they were interested in him. Sure seems like it wasn't the price tag that disinterested them.
  16. Hard to figure. But they think they have things covered. We shall see. In any case it's puzzling a guy who totaled 5.1 fWAR over the last 2 seasons could only get $3 mill.
  17. Agreed, Sale and Yoshida are huge. Paxton could be big too. Then Bello and Casas. I guess we're working on a list of "most crucial X factors"...
  18. I'm well aware of that possibility. But there's no need to be obnoxious about it.
  19. I'm pretty happy with these projections, yes, because: 1) They suggest that the gap between us and the other AL East powers isn't insurmountable. 2) Projections always leave a lot of room for error.
  20. None of the individual projections are totally unrealistic. A scenario in which everyone hits those optimistic numbers isn't very realistic.
  21. And he really is talking some s**t these days LOL
  22. OK, well, as far as 2019 is concerned, Sale was likely pitching hurt. In 2021 he registered a 3.16 ERA in a small sample of 42.2 innings. His career ERA is 3.03. I don't think anyone would argue Chris Sale is a 4.40 ERA guy when he's healthy. Factor in age, and a reasonable projection of his ERA this year would be 3.40 or something like that.
  23. ERA is not a reliable stat in itself.
  24. Jax is the same guy who says Montas was a "luxury" this year.
  25. Read 'em and weep, Jax. Sox getting better, Yankees getting worse. ZIPS Projected wins 91 NYY 89 TBR 88 TOR 82 BOS 78 BAL
