  1. Mission accomplished! We are Even Steven.
  2. I strongly resemble that remark LOL
  3. There's nothing wrong with giving a guy credit for not f**king up a good thing.
  4. What if it's a necessary evil? Without Foulke and Lackey and Price, how many rings?
  5. I know the history very well, moon. There have been some good signings the last couple of years, at this stage at least. There have been some instant busts too, of course. That's to be expected. Bloom's biggest splash on a position player, Story, hasn't turned out great either.
  6. Whether trading Betts could ever be defined as the right move will always be up for debate, I think.
  7. It's hard to know what Henry is thinking any more. Maybe he's decided to be a stubborn old rich prick who has made it through being booed at one Winter Weekend and figures he can do it again. If he was really trying to appease the fans I think he would have spent more this off-season and not fallen back into the middle of the payroll pack.
  8. "If 6 was 9" - Jimi Hendrix.
  9. Once they traded Betts, and we were also without Sale and E-Rod for the season, it only made sense to tank the 2020 season, as much as I dislike tanking.
  10. So do we assume that Bloom has indeed been guaranteed at least 5 years?
  11. This all started with me pointing out that Bogaerts is still doing well in terms of fWAR, in spite of the slump he was in for a while. As to your question about bringing all those guys back plus more, that would have been tough unless Henry was in a Steve Cohen-ish mood. It just hurts to see all these guys doing well for other teams while Bloom has largely had no success replacing them.
  12. So now we're just lumping together guys with contracts of much different lengths?
  13. We were just talking about getting a guy who could field the position, rather than trying to plug Kike in there.
  14. Then your statement was nonsensical, assuming that we wouldn't sign all these guys because we signed Bogey to a long term contract.
  15. Your math is off a little...well, actually a lot. Bogey's AAV is 25.455 mill. Yoshida and Turner combined are more than that.
  16. And if we sell off at the deadline, get ready for another 2012-like finish.
  17. But Bloom has done such an underwhelming job 2 offseasons in a row, how can we have any faith in him doing a good job next time around?
  18. Peter Abraham in the Globe today with the first article about who we should trade off at the deadline.
  19. Keep having fun with that argument, but as others have pointed out, it's not just losing guys like the ones Danny mentioned, it's the fact that there haven't been any replacements.
  20. Unloading Price saved the Sox 30 million. (0 in 2020 because he opted out.) Plus some luxury tax. Sure, that's a chunk of change, but in the big picture it's a pittance. It's certainly not a justification for losing Mookie Betts.
  21. True, although he probably didn't realize he'd be playing shortstop. If he'd known that he would have known the Sox weren't going to be better. Either way he gets to keep the $10 mill, though, just like Kluber does...
  22. No worries though, it's gonna be awesome. Bloom said so. Of course he also said this year was gonna be way better than last year. Hmmm, can we really trust this guy?
  23. All he had to do was sign Jose Iglesias, who has been able to do no better than a minor league deal with the San Diego Shortstops.
  24. As for Yoshida, yes, his bat is good. But he's a poor defender and baserunner, so his WAR is 1.0, which means he's barely on pace to earn his $18 million.
  25. 32-33 with a run differential of 320-321. If Bloom's goal for 2023 was to build a prototypical .500 team, he succeeded brilliantly!
