  1. Fred's negativity is a form of attention-seeking. He craves all this back and forth that it generates.
  2. Of course Chapman wouldn't have refused. Cora doesn't want to burn him out because if he does we're screwed. You calling for Cora to be fired for it is ridiculous yet not surprising to anyone who's familiar with you.
  3. There's no way to document it, but I think the attitude factor can't be dismissed.
  4. On the other hand, FanGraphs is showing Priester with a WAR of only 0.9. So he appears to have benefited from the ballpark and other random factors. A 0.9 WAR extrapolated to a full season is below average. Which makes it a pretty minor loss.
  5. Since the trade: Red Sox 31-20 Giants 18-33
  6. Priester pitches tonight so we'll have some fresh data.
  7. Why did you go with his last 4 starts? 3 of them were good. His last start was the bad one that hurt the numbers.
  8. With men on base he's hitting 294/322/515 = 837 OPS With RISP 289/317/511 = 828 OPS Bases empty 228/287/353 = 630 OPS
  9. You're talking about the 5 innings with Boston and the 4 innings with Worcester? There's no evidence to go on. This was basically a property flip.
  10. Maybe the first player ever to be DFAd right after a grand slam.
  11. Lowe had a grand slam and 2 walks his last game. 😀
  12. The only real difference is Lowe has some pedigree, some history of success at this level. Toro does not.
  13. And those were roids-free guns, presumably .
  14. I get it, but it's just too anecdotal IMHO. Plus the Red Sox average age is only a little below MLB average.
  15. Generally speaking when a team is losing a lot of one-run games the finger gets pointed at the manager. Personally I think too much of it is randomness to draw any conclusions one way or the other.
  16. Well, it's an interesting take, but the 'street-smart' premise seems a little dubious to me.
  17. I think they just wanted Bernardino to get a bit of a rest.
  18. That's a pretty small tweak though. Personally I've never seen any explanation for why Pythagorean record even matters. Maybe early in the season it might tell you something. But we've seen teams with big variances sustained over entire seasons, so what does it matter?
  19. Yeah, in baseball I think Pythagoras is pretty much wiped out by Random-ass.
