  1. What I have noticed is that there has been very little complaining about letting Pivetta walk. That's because they invested heavily in Crochet, and also shelled out for Buehler. Plus the extension for Bello. People understand you can only spend so much. It's a sign of how sophisticated Sox fans are. 🙃
  2. I think history shows you need at least 2 starters performing well in the playoffs. Just going back 2 years, in 2023 the Rangers had Eovaldi and Montgomery, in 2024 the Dodgers had Yamamoto, Buehler and Flaherty.
  3. I must be going senile because I didn't catch on that it was you LOL
  4. The only thing is, beating up on bad teams is something the Sox had not been doing before this.
  5. It's kind of crazy that of all the people the Giants might choose to work out with Devers at 1B, they go with Will Clark, a man obviously still capable of saying incredibly dumb stuff.
  6. These days Fred is focused with laser precision on Rafaela's plate approach and how pitchers are going to eventually realize they shouldn't be throwing him any strikes.
  7. A few wins make me giddy, I know, but the team seems to have some real spark now. Part of that comes from the energy infusion of Anthony and Mayer, part from Story and Rafaela really stepping it up. Abreu, Narvaez, Gonzalez have been great. Duran has been better lately. The offense should be quite decent when Bregman returns. It all comes down to how the pitching holds up.
  8. Bregman passed on a 6-172 offer from Detroit. He took a lot less guaranteed money to sign with the Sox.
  9. Alonso is actually a great example of teams not necessarily lining up to pay a truckload of money to a bat-only guy. Some cash in and some don't. There's some luck and timing involved. And the Vlad Jr lockup by the Jays had a significant PR component.
  10. Toro is still doing fine. And I did not not realize he's Canadian until looking at his B-R page. Now I like him even more. And you naysayers need to relax and let him produce. 😀
  11. I see no reason for fear. No doubt he was included by the Giants for some payroll relief. I'm sure Breslow hopes he can be a solid late inning guy, but I'm also pretty sure Breslow doesn't see him as a slam dunk replacement for Chapman...
  12. Sure, but a number of Sox fans were freaking out because the offense hit the skids for a little stretch after trading Devers.
  13. In 20 games with the Giants, Devers has a .735 OPS, 2 HR and a 0.1 bWAR. That's not very good for a $30 million DH. And the Sox offense without him is starting to look a lot better. Regardless of other past mistakes, this time they got it right.
  14. I get that too, but Cora is also trying to win games and there's no guarantee Mayer is going to hit this year. Mayer is getting his chances, Cora is trying to get him most of his chances against righties. They eased Anthony in a bit too. It's good management IMHO.
  15. The thing about Mayer is he looks good even when he's not playing good. That's what these old timers are falling for. I'm joking, but these complaints about Cora not playing him enough are a tad overblown.
  16. He's hitting 214 with a dreadful 257 OBP. He's struggling with the bat big time. Cora is easing him in. Cora knows what he's doing.
  17. Mayer isn't even hitting righties that well. He's done nothing to suggest Cora is holding him back.
  18. But it's not much fun waiting for years of data before answering. And what exactly will be the point of answering the question then? 😀
  19. So what exactly supports your contention that the offense is 'weak'? Seems like your evidence is all anecdotal. You like batting average, don't you? The Sox are T6 in batting average. Show us some numbers that support your contention that the offense is weak. .
  20. Plus MLB pitchers have a ton of data and video at their disposal. Fred's 'wait till pitchers learn they don't have to throw him a strike' take is pretty amusing. 😀
  21. The Red Sox are #6 in runs scored per game, T8 in OPS+, T12 in ERA+ and 18 in ERA. You do say the darndest things.
  22. A couple of players have been made available, that much is certain.
  23. The Devers trade was just plain unusual and everyone has their opinion on why they did it. You and others thought the Priester trade was jumping on an opportunity to get a big haul for a starter with weak peripherals that the Sox probably didn't need. So I think the real story is yet to be told.
